Just like the previous times, Rina received her briefing of the mission right as it was time to leave. Zachariah provided nothing as to what the ordeal would truly be like with his vague explanation. As far as she knew, her target was a succubus whose spree had garnered rumors among mortals.
When she asked whether she was to eliminate the succubus or simply put a stop to the feedings, Zachariah gave her no answer.
But seeing as how her previous two assignments were completed without a hitch, she wasn't too worried.
To her surprise, they were deployed to the countryside, on a road not far away from what looked to be a lone bar. Outside the building were trucks and motorcycles, and even from her distance, she could smell the stench of body odor, alcohol, and cigarette smoke.
"This seems like a weird place to hunt, don't you think?" Rina remarked, "Seems a little too close knit."
"It's perfect," Zachariah replied, "Because of the remote location, the succubus easily becomes a secret among the men and nothing more than a tale for the women."
The two of them watched as a car drove down from the other end of the road and entered the parking lot of the bar. A large man exited the vehicle, but his complex was pale and sweating. It was obvious he was going through withdrawal symptoms.
"She's made the bar her territory," Zachariah explained, "Be careful not to tip off her thralls."
Rina frowned, realizing there would be more to this mission than the others. "How am I supposed to do that?"
Zachariah answered by raising his brow.
"Fine, I'll figure it out myself." She straightened her shoulders and took a step before coming to another realization. "You're not coming, are you?"
He shook his head. "I would attract too much attention."
"Of course," she muttered.
Compared to the gruff looking mortals in the bar, Zachariah's ethereal attractiveness would be a stark contrast—one that would cause more trouble than security.
And so, Rina made her way into the building alone. The closer she got, the louder the noise from the bar. Music, laughter, and the clinking of glass all mingled together.
However, the moment she stepped foot into the bar, a wave of silence traveled throughout the crowd and all heads turned in her direction. To her surprise—but maybe also expected—not a single female was in sight. Made sense, considering the bar was the succubus's personal hunting ground.
If Rina weren't here on a mission, she would've assumed the bar to be like any other. The men looked normal and not at all like they were under the spell of a sex demon. Still, she couldn't let her guard down.
"What brings you here, sweetheart?" the bartender asked.
She continued to stand near the entrance, scanning for any traces of the succubus. "My car broke down a couple miles away. Do you guys have a phone I can use? Mine ran out of battery."
Her story garnered no suspicion from the men, but she was definitely an unwanted guest.
"Outside, on the side of the building," the bartender answered, "There's a pay phone. Surprised you missed it."
"Does it only accept coins?"
The only other door in the bar was behind the barkeep, marked EMPLOYEES ONLY. If there was anywhere to hide, it would be there.
"Yes, ma'am. If you need change, you'll have to buy something."
She smiled wryly. "I don't have any cash."
