AN: This is my first story, and I hope you all enjoy!

"Grammy!"

Mal turned her head distractedly from the woman she had been speaking to recognising when a conversation was over. So far Family Day was going really well. She was just starting to think it wasn't so bad living in Auradon when she realised who had just approached the woman she had been speaking to.

"Oh Audrey! Give Grammy a kiss dear."

Mal turned around, eyes widening in shock as she realised who the woman next to her was.

Audrey was looking perfectly stunning in her pink and blue dress, hair perfectly curled and lips perfectly glossed.

"Grammy?" Mal whispered, as if scared to form the words.

She watched those dark magnetic orbs that normally glowed with warmth (when they weren't looking at Mal) turn cold as they connected with her own green eyes.

"Sleeping beauty's mother..." Audrey said, lips forming a thin line as she looked at Mal, clear disgust in her eyes.

Mal nodded distractedly, her worst fears having been confirmed. She had been talking to Queen Leah. If anyone had a reason to hate her mother it was her. She quickly averted her eyes hoping she could still save this situation, the least she could do was act civil.

Unfortunately that was not to be.

"Grammy, I don't think you want to be talking to this girl... unless you feel like taking another hundred year sleep."

That hit a nerve. As much as her mother may have been in the wrong, those so called goody two shoes's should have just invited her to their stupid christening! Mal knew what it was like to not be invited, to watch as others had fun and celebrated right under her nose.

She felt her nails dig into her palm.

It was infuriating!

She watched as Queen Leah turned to her in confusion, still holding the hand of her granddaughter. She had been going for a smile, though she couldn't help but screw her face into what she knew would be more a sarcastic and cruel smile than a genuine one.

Then the Queen's eyes lit up in recognition.

The result was instantaneous.

"YOU!"

Mal flinched. Adults raising their voices never meant anything good.

"How are you here? And how have you stayed so young?"

Mal was starting to get nervous now. She almost breathed a sigh of relief when she felt the familiar strong warmth of Ben behind her. A strong hand clasped her right arm in support.

Ben was here. And he was going to make it all ok... is what she tried to tell herself.

She hardly heard what her boyfriend was saying as he tried to console the Queen.

She tuned in just in time to hear Ben introducing her, so managed (what she hoped) was a reassuring smile. A smile that said, I'm not my mother and I won't hurt you.

"Don't you remember my proclamation to give the next generation a chance?"

Her boyfriend's happy voice, managed to filter through her muddled mind, prompting her to nod in response to his words.

"A chance to what Ben? Destroy us?"

Mal was starting to feel increasingly targeted. It wasn't fair! She didn't choose to be evil. And up till now she didn't even know if she wanted to be evil. Or steal fairy godmother's wand. And these people - these so called 'good guys' - were here saying she didn't have a choice.
