Tokyo July 1st 1991 through July 10th 1991 Part 2 Susan and BCCI

Ginza links was busy on the afternoon of July 2nd. No surprise though. It was a miserable day and had rained solidly since Bill Douglas got back to the house late on Monday night.

That the storm came in at that time gave the Tuesday golfers plenty of notice that their pastime for tomorrow had been cancelled for sure.

For those wealthy enough to be members, Ginza links provided an excellent alternative to wet and windy golf and hours of travel out of Tokyo to get there. Bill was booked to play golf on that Tuesday at the Windsor Park Golf Club about an hour and a half north of Tokyo and his normal group didn't want to miss out altogether.

Yoshikawa san called him very early on Tuesday morning to announce that they would play at Ginza instead. His brother owned Ginza Links, so privileges were always available to him and his friends. Bill was delighted with the turn of events because although he loved smashing the stupid little ball down long fields of grass, he absolutely loathed driving out of Tokyo and sitting in the traffic for what felt like hours.

'THE' Ginza Links - Don't forget the 'THE' or you risked the wrath of Hell from Shin Yoshikawa. He spent millions of dollars creating this little piece of Scotland in Central Tokyo and as far as he was concerned the branding of this place was paramount in maintaining its lofty status among the 'elite' places to go and things to do for the wealthy Japanese businessmen and their trendy token wives.

Bill went there for dinner a short while back when Yoshikawa had let him fly around, so to speak, in the Dragonfly for the first time.

The 'Clubhouse' was immaculate as usual and the single malt whisky flowed generously throughout the game - a foursome with the Yoshikawa brothers on opposing twosomes. Shin had his old pal and confidant Takada san and Bill kept his side of the 'four ball' in play along with Yoshikawa san. They 'played' Pebble Beach on the brand new simulator.

The scenery and distances were portrayed so accurately, it was difficult to remind yourself that you were thousands of miles away in central Tokyo. As the alcohol took effect the gap between the teams widened. Douglas did not drink whisky, so a couple of beers had zero impact on his abilities and he and Yoshikawa were well ahead when the phone call from the Nakane house came in.

It was Sakurai san, and an unsettled sounding Sakurai san at that. "She's here Douglas san," she whispered almost nervously, "And she's made herself at home in the big bedroom. Not so much as a by your leave. She acts like she owns the place and I suggest you come back because she's going through all Kris's stuff and trying it on!"

Yoshikawa raised his eyebrows quizzically when Douglas returned. "What's bothering you Douglas san?" he asked. Don't let whatever it is upset you - we're in to win one hundred thousand yen here!"

"Shit, Yoshikawa san," Bill replied. "I'm gonna have to go, I'm afraid. An old work colleague has arrived in Tokyo and she's back at the house; and causing grief on poor old Sakurai san." He shook his head and held his hands out palm upwards, shrugging his shoulders in apology. "We're so far ahead you can't lose now anyway. Just play my ball, and you keep the cash," he said with a smile...

Just under an hour later saw Douglas pushing through the door of the new place. Sakurai san was preparing to leave, but before going, she raised her eyes to the ceiling and pointed upwards with her finger twice with an added negative shaking of her head. Not a word said, but the meaning was clear. She was not at all pleased.

Douglas simply smiled in an "I know" kind of way, shaking his own head in sympathy. He patted Sakurai gently on her shoulders and sent her on her way.
