Flint's Point of View

I arrived at my doorstep and my mother greets me with a sweet smile along with my dad who's helping her with dinner.

I smile back faintly. Hesitating when i should ask the question.

A few moments later, we're all sitting down for dinner. Mom and Dad are both asking about each other's days while i stayed quiet, appetite slowly fading away.

"How about you Flint? Hows your day?" Mom suddenly asks me.

"Fine, i guess."

She stopped eating and put her utensils down. She stares at me with worry in her eyes so avoided her gaze.

"Is something the problem honey?" She asks in a worried tone.

My father stares at me when Mom asked the question.

"Mom... Am i really not your son?"

"What, of course you are. Why are you suddenly asking this question?" She sits up straight in her chair.

Guess i really didnt word that right.

"No... Thats not what i mean. Were you the one who gave birth to me?" I ask, looking up at her.

Shock was evident in her eyes. It was obvious that what i asked must've hit something inside her.

"I see..."

Disappointment washed through me. Not because they didn't immediately tell me i wasn't really their son.

I was disappointed that the girl in the forest was right.

"W-where did you hear that Flint?" Mom asks, a shake in her voice.

"It doesnt matter now Mom. I just wanted to know the truth, now lets continue eating." I smiled softly at her even though the truth is still shocking to me.

20 years of me not knowing that my 'parents' weren't the real ones.

Im not angry at them, not even in the slightest. Im mature enough to know that they're not the ones at fault, after all theyre the ones who raised me.

We all continued eating in awkward silence.

After dinner was done and everyone was doing something else, i went out without saying anything.

I walk down the empty streets of our neighborhood. Letting my feet take me to wherever it wants me too.

I sighed heavily as i glance up to the starry sky, somehow i find comfort in them.

My moment of peace was disrupted when i felt the phone in my pocket vibrate.

It was Mom. She probably noticed already that i was gone and tried to call me.

I turned airplane mode on so no one could reach me and continued walking.

Eventually i reached the entrance of the forest. I sighed once more before entering.

It was quick that i reached the familiar clearing. In there i stumbled upon the girl, laying down on the grass with fireflies surrounding her. Her arms behind her head and her eyes close, maybe enjoyinh the peaceful ambiance in the forest.

The moonlight hits her seemingly peaceful face just right while she hums a tune that i dont recognize.

But the humming stopped and she opens her eyes to turn at my direction.

"So, how'd it go?" She asks while getting up from the ground.

I dont answer her and instead just went a few steps besides her and laid down on the ground.
