You made your way into the cozy store, the scent of coffee making its way into your senses.
You'd just been employed in a new workplace, and you were making your way in for your first shift.
It was named 'café de ciel bleu', a coffee shop with good service you used to only visit so often, where you eventually handed in a resume for after noticing a "We're Hiring!" poster plastered on the front counter.
The interview went well, you spoke to a kind manager named Chloe who seemed impressed by the information presented in your resume, especially seeing as you had only just come out of high school.
Needless to say, you were emailed the next day to be informed of your acceptance, and given a link to join the system and put in your "work availabilities".So, here you were for your first shift after checking your roster that was sent shortly after you were taken into the system.
You made your way to the front counter, and stood for a small time as you waited for an employee to come assist you. Sure enough, a short, cheery blonde with short hair approached.
"Hi, welcome to café de ciel bleu! How can I help you today?" she remarked.
You anxiously opened your mouth to respond, "Hi, my name is (y/n) and I'm here for my first shift..?"
"Ah, of course!! The trainee we were expecting today. I'll go grab our manager and see what's on your schedule for the first shift." she smiled.
She was so polite, a great first impression of your new coworker, you thought. After a short few seconds of standing at the register, a short, dark haired woman came out from the back to greet you.
"Hi, I'm Odelia, one of the managers here. I'll take you to get your uniform then introduce you to the person who'll be training you today." she affirmed. You nodded your head to show you understood her clearly.
"Come with me now," she instructed, and you made your way behind the counter to her office, where a bag with your name on it was waiting for you.
"Ok, (y/n), this is your uniform! Change rooms are down the back, the male one will be to your left. Come back to this office once you're ready!" she told you.
"Alright, thank you." you responded genuinely, taking your bag and making your way to the designated area. The uniform was a simple outfit, less of a struggle to put on compared to the place you worked at during your high school years. It was a simple black t-shirt and black business pants, accompanied by a simple, adjustable blue apron with the cafe's logo printed on the left.
You made your way out, and walked yourself into the managers office where she was waiting for you, accompanied by a taller man that wasn't there before.
And holy shit was he hot.
He had a carefree yet assertive way of carrying himself, a jawline that could cut stone, the most beautiful smile; not too overbearing but visible nonetheless, blue eyes one could drown in if stared at for too long- and the ends of his hair were dyed blue, a smooth transition from his natural black roots that ran down two thirds of his hair. Okay, well that's one pointer you had a chance with him-
He had multiple piercings on his ears, including; but not limited to; a helix, first and seconds, and an industrial on the right...
This man would be the death of you.
Fuck, you needed to focus- you hadn't even touched any of the coffee beans here yet you were already imagining how to get your hot... coworker? to fall for you. You needed to remind yourself to take things one step at a time.
Once you entered the manager's office, Odelia spoke up again. "Okay, great. Now, this is Luka, he'll be your trainer for the next few shifts. Try to get to know each other in that time space, it's good to be close with your coworkers." she expressed.
Luka. What a nice name.
"Hi, I'm Luka as you've just been told," he smiled, "looking forward to working with you, err..."
"(Y/n)," you somehow managed out without mumbling, "and thank you, likewise."
"Alright," Odelia chirped "I'll leave it to you then Luka. Thanks!"
and she hopped off to do... important manager stuff perhaps? Who knows....Your train of thought was interrupted by a certain deep voice.
"So, as you heard I'll be training you." he reiterated. God, that tone. You probably wouldn't have had to look at him before you started to swoon over him. "—but i wasn't actually told what prior experience you have so... mind giving me a background and we can get going?" he questioned.
"Of course!" you perked up. "I used to work at a McDonalds, I left around 6 months before I finished year 12. I learnt basic barista-ing while I was there but... if I'm being honest the trainers weren't very clear on techniques to milk frothing so, hopefully we can go over that?"
"Cool, cool..." he mumbled, writing some notes down on the clipboard he'd been holding onto. "Did you finish year 12 this last semester?" he questioned.
"Yeah." you responded.
"Cool, me too." he smiled, "we must be about the same age then. Going into uni?"
"Yeah. Conservatoire de Lille."
"Hey, me too? Who knows maybe I'll see you there when it starts up," he chuckled, smiling but keeping his eyes down on the clipboard- still writing. "Sorry, ah. Back on track. So you'd say you have a fair bit of experience in customer service?"
"Mhm."
"And you know how to make coffee but you need to re-learn milk frothing."
"Yes."
"You know housekeeping stuff? Mopping cleaning the machines, et cetera?"
"Cafe close was my favourite task back at my old place." you smiled.
"Alright. I'll make a list of what we need to go over which is probably just milk, our registers, and stuff specific to our store like how we stock, clean and stuff along those lines." he listed.
"Great! So where are we starting?" you responded.
"I'll get you to make the next coffee a customer orders to test your abilities. You can watch the register as I serve them if you'd like too, it might help you pick up use of our registers."
"Alright." you responded, right as the bell rang signalling someone walking through the door. The customer stepped up to the register where they were greeted by Luka, who took their order diligently.
"I'll have a skinny mocha please. Large."That would be an easy first order for you to prove your worth to Luka, you've made plenty of mochas before. There was just one problem.
You weren't exactly sure how the milk was meant to be done.
