You stepped into the male toilets, as you assumed that's where he'd gone off to- and sure enough, you were correct.
Well- you were pretty sure, because the first stall was closed and you could see Luka's converse when you crouched a little.
You knocked on the stall door softly. "Luka?" you softly questioned.
"Shit." you heard him mumble, sniffling as you heard his shoes shuffling as he got up to unlock the stall. He emerged, his eyes a little puffy and face red.
"I'm sorry. That probably ruined the show..." he trailed off.
"Hey, hey.." you mumbled, reaching out to rub his arm. "You didn't ruin anything. Your happiness is important too okay? Do you wanna say whats wrong?? It's ok if you don't."
He sighed, not used to the comfort of another. Somehow he always ended up being the one there for everyone- never the one with people there for him. Sure, he talked to his sister about stuff but there's only so much he could put on one person- and he didn't want to burden her.
"Yeah... ina second..." he mumbled, trailing off.""Can I have a hug first?" he asked.
You nodded, wrapping your arms around his lower back and resting your head on his chest. He slowly wrapped his hands around your upper back, laying his head on your shoulder. If you weren't so concerned for his health, you'd be internally screaming right now. You did wish you could stay in that position forever though- it was comfortable and calming, his arms were warm like the best kind of hot chocolate, and they were strong but soft all at once.Suddenly, a shuffling could be heard from outside the stall, as if someone was coming in. Luka pulled you by the waist, and quickly tugged you into the vacant stall, locking the door and sitting up on the seat, holding you on his lap to avoid either of your shoes from being seen under the door.
Although it was still obvious that someone was there due to the stalk being locked, he thought at least this way they couldn't tell it was you two by your shoes.
You were trying to keep composed in your current position- you were so close you could feel his chest moving as he breathed, it was firm and warm, comforting but his heart rate was erratic due to the conditions of being walked in on.
Suddenly, you heard the bathroom door squeak open, solid, firm steps coming into the room.
"Luka?" a deep male voice called out. You knew it was their drummer, Ivan, as you matched his voice from earlier when the band members introduced themselves.
"If you're here, we've just gone into a 10 minute intermission after finishing the last song, and you're free to come back to continue playing. If not, Rose can keep covering for you on guitar. Hope you're okay, man." he stated. It was sweet, coming to check up on his bandmate. The footsteps started up again, slowly fading as the door creaked back open and Ivan left.
You released a sigh, having held your breath in suspense for much too long, feeling Luka do the same thing due to your close proximity.
Wait. Your close proximity?
You were on his lap.
You immediately felt your face heat up, as you tried not to gasp, holding your breath again because of it.
"Hey. You can breathe now, he's gone." Luka nudged you.
"Right." you responded, breathing out deeply.
Okay, try not to get distracted again- you came here to talk to Luka; let him vent, and make sure he was okay.
"You wanna talk about it now?" you asked, looking up at him expectantly.
He hesitated. "Um.. only a little. I don't want to get too deep into it, that way I'll still feel good enough to continue playing after the intermission. Don't wanna let anyone down..."
"That's fine. Take your time and only say what you want to, ok?" you smiled at him.He took a deep breath. "Ok.. so. Did you see the person who walked in before I ran off?" he asked.
"Yeah. Got a clear view when I ran over to you, actually." you responded.
"She..." he sighed. "We dated in high school. She was a friend of my sisters- well, still is kinda. I guess they stopped talking as much since her being my ex made it awkward? She used to do costume design for our band too, so she quit that after our break-up too... I guess that opened room for distance."He took a deep breath before continuing. "I was stupid to ask her out in the first place, she clearly liked another guy, and I did anyways and she agreed for some reason? But.. she never had time for me and it just hurt I guess, I'm sure she had a good reason but she never told me... anyways."
He sighed again.
"We broke up eventually, after she said she felt bad for still liking that other guy. Lost contact after then, I realised how much time I wasted liking her when I could have dated others and kinda went around dating people left and right... also in an attempt to get over her."He leaned his head on your shoulder, still holding you on his lap.
"I guess I never really did get over her... god that was such an unhealthy way of coping." he chuckled. "At least I figures out I was bisexual that way, I got to try dating guys."
Oh?
He stopped.
"Sorry, I'm getting off track," he blinked. "But yeah, I guess I really didn't get over her if seeing her invoked such a response in me tonight. I bet she's dating that guy she liked while dating me right now. He... he's great, he would have seen her for how amazing she was...""Thank you for telling me all of that." you said lowly, reaching around to hug him again.
"Honestly she sounds kind of toxic. Not telling you why she couldn't make time for you. You deserved better." you sighed.
He moved his head so the space between his neck and chin looped over your shoulder. "I guess. Maybe I'm too nice for my own good."
"That's definitely right." you stated. He laughed.
"Do you still feel up to performing?" you asked.
He nodded. "Music is like my first language.. it'd really help me to go back in to be honest." he sighed. "Do me a favour?"
You perked up, tilting your head to face him. He disconnected his head from your shoulders, turning to look back at you, your eyes locking faithfully. "Yeah?" you asked.
"Stand in front of the girl for me? I don't want to see her while I'm playing, it'll throw me off." he stated guiltily.
"Of course!" you said. "Hey, you look like you feel bad. Don't, your feelings are important."
You poked his cheek, and he turned away in shame.
Was that a slight blush you saw?
"Fine. Okay."
"Okay?"
"Okay." he said. "Let's go back now?"
You nodded, getting off from him and standing up, unlocking the stall to walk out. He staggered behind, readjusting after being in the same position for a while.
He gave you one last hug, then walked out behind you.Once you were out, you kept your eyes peeled; looking around for that dark haired girl so you could take your place infront of her. Luckily, she was sitting at a table behind the one you were at before, so you simply resumed to your place as you watched Luka step back up to the band setup, Rose grabbing her microphone to announce the end of the intermission.
Soon enough, they got into rhythm- and the concert went on smoothly for the rest of the night.
Well, that was until the end of it.
