It had been two weeks since you had begun working at the coffee shop. You and Luka had become considerably close since, and you had been approved to share a dorm in university- which would be starting in a little less than a month now.
"Hey (N/n)." Luka said, ruffling your hair like he normally did as you were in the middle of making a coffee.
You chuckled. "Hello there." you responded, smiling gleefully at the gesture.
"Hey, are you working this Friday?" he asked.
"No, why?"
"You should come down, my band and I are performing at the cafe." he suggested.
"You're in a band? I think I remember hearing something about that actually..." you pondered.
He perked up. "Yeah. With my high school friends. Well, my sister and her friends really- they're all a year younger than me."
"Woah. That's so cool." you smiled. "Wait, what do you play?" you asked, moving further away to hand out the coffee you were making to a patient customer.
"Guitar. Band's name is Kitty Section." he replied.
Your eyes lit up. "Wait that's such a cool name!!! What genre?" you asked.
"You'll see." he teased, turning around to walk away.
"Hey!! Come back and answer my question!" you called out, trying to catch up to the tall barista.
"No." you heard in the distance.
"Ok fine! What time is it though!" you called out again.
"6pm." you heard in the distance. And you got back to work shortly after marking the gig down in your calendar.
Friday, 5:45pm
You walked into your workplace, feeling special due to the fact that Luka had invited you to watch his band tonight.
Noticing a certain blue and black head poking up down the back, you went over to go say hi.Luka was setting up with what you assumed to be his bandmates, one a girl who worked with you- whose name you learnt was Rose, a black and purple haired girl who looked a lot like Luka, and a tall and bulky man with a dark skull shirt and a bleached fringe.
You tapped Luka on the shoulder and he turned to you.
"Hello." you smiled at him. "Nice guitar."
"Thanks. My Dad got it for me as an apology for not telling me we were related until i was 16."
You blinked.
"Anyways, glad you're here tonight, I was looking forward to seeing your face."
"Wait, wait, wait, wait..." you stared at him, "you're just gonna drop that fact and skim over it like it's nothing? I need a double take please."
"Don't worry about it, cutie." he smiled, ruffling your hair and turning away. "We'll discuss these things in due time."
You stood there trying to pick out a response- which was extremely difficult due to:
1. The steaming mess he left you in by calling you... that.
2. The fact he just blurted out trauma in a sentence like he was talking about the weather- and then just proceeded to tell you not to worry about it.
He turned back around due to the absence of your response, noticing how flustered you were and chuckling. He reached his hand up to your cheeks, feeling the heat that had rushed there. "You're warm. Maybe you should go sit down and order an iced coffee or something. Stop distracting me from setting up, y'know?" he teased.
Naturally you gaped, being left with no way to find a response- and an even warmer face then before due to the short contact made between your cheek and his hand.
"O-ok." you stuttered out, walking to the counter to follow his advice- not completely because he told you to, but because you were actually craving an iced mocha to tell the truth. One of your coworkers, a nice girl name Charley greeted you. "Hey (Y/n)! What can I get for you?"
"Just a medium iced mocha thanks. Full cream." you said, smiling at her.
"Cool, I'll just add the employees discount..." she hummed, tapping away at the register.
"Heyyy, I'm not working today. You don't need to!!" you said.
"Too bad!" she giggled. "Ok. Just $2.35."
She pulled up the EFTPOS machine and you tapped your debit card. After being handed your receipt, you headed down to the waiting area where you'd be able to collect your coffee.
As you waited, you directed your eyes back at the guitarist of the band setting up. It was hard to deny you'd developed a crush on the boy, and seeing him working with something he was so passionate about- his band, his guitar- wasn't a help. The way his eyes gleamed with pride when he looked at his guitar, his team and how far they'd come, the passion on his face as he strummed practise chords in a sound check- it was undeniable that seeing him this way made you fall just a little bit harder."(Y/n)!"
You snapped out of your haze at the voice of Charley, realising after a second that your coffee was probably ready.
Stepping up to the bench, you were greeted by a gleaming Charley, your iced mocha in hand.
"There ya go." she said, passing it to you with a straw.
"Thanks Charls." you smiled at her.
"No problem!" she gushed, walking off to take another order. You unwrapped the paper straw, walking to the bin to throw away the rubbish, then shortly after, poking through the lid with your straw, sipping the drink greedily.
Charley was a godsend- this was the third time this week you'd had a coffee she made- and she never failed to disappoint. It was top-tier every time. You made your way back to where the band was, grabbing a seat at a nearby table so you could watch- a seat where you had a full view of a... certain someone. Yeah.
After a few minutes, the lights changed in the cafe to put the focus on the band, and they started up.
Oh boy.
Rose, your coworker, was screaming perfectly written lyrics into the microphone as the instrumentalists played a focused and hardcore, heavy rock progression in the background.
Sure, at first it was shocking but after getting over the initial surprise, you realised how good they actually were.
And Rose's voice suited heavy metal to be honest.
You immersed yourself in the music, as well as the guitarist- admiring his stance, the way his hand worked on the guitar and the sweat that was gleaming on his forehead already. What a view.
After the first song was over, Rose spoke through the microphone in her usual voice, introducing the band mates, their roles and relations- allowing you to learn the purple haired one was called Juleka- and as well as being Luka's sister, she and Rose were dating. You'd heard about Rose's girlfriend at work, so it was nice to put a name to a face.
After the introductions, she announced their next song and they dove in.
In the beginning, some more customers came through the door. Some of the musicians looked up to see who was entering, and you saw Luka's facial expression warp into something much less excited and passionate- first, his face was washed over with confusion. and that gradually melted until it looked like he'd seen a ghost.
Suddenly, he shrugged off his guitar and gave it to Rose, who gave him an empathetic look of concern as she took over his part, Luka taking steps down from where he was previously playing, rushing across in the direction of the bathrooms. He crossed you, and you swear you saw tears prickling in his eyes.
You had to go after him- you couldn't bear to sit there and watch him in that state helplessly.
So that's what you did- you got up, leaving the crowds and the loud sounds to follow that boy, glancing at the person who'd induced this state as they walked in to get a scope-
She was a pretty girl with hair so dark it looked as though it shone blue- kept in neat low pigtails that almost appeared round. She had bright blue eyes and glossy pink lips, wearing a fashionable shirt and skirt that appeared handmade.
So how did a girl so sweet-looking induce such a reaction out of Luka simply by showing herself to him?
Well, there was one obvious reason- a reason you really, really didn't like.
One you didn't want to believe-
But it was the obvious choice, wasn't it?Him and the girl had to have been involved romantically. At some point or another.
