"Maybe we should have talked with your father first? I mean, not like I am complaining that we are together right now but I am pretty sure he is concerned" Elena was saying the same thing in different ways since they left the village six hours ago. Klaus sighed and stopped, he turned to Elena and held her hands. "I cannot go back and pretend like my own blood did not betray me. My own brother and mother tried to destroy one thing belonged to me, I cannot risk it again" Elena tilted her head but nodded, she understood his concern. She did not want him to feel uncomfortable.
They both continued walking until it was late at night. Then they stopped when they saw a little hut. "We should head in. It is already called out there" Klaus seemed hesitant but followed her. Elena knocked the door few times but when no one answered it, she turned to Klaus. "Break it" Klaus looked at her with shock. "This is someone's house" Elena narrowed her eyes but continued looking at Klaus until she realized that he was not going to. "Alright, you know what? I will"
She sighed and gestured towards door, causing it to open. She smiled and they both walked in. "This was easy now, right?" Klaus chuckled and narrowed his eyes, he sat down and looked at the furniture inside. Elena was in another room. "It seems like someone was living in this house recently" There was no voice or reply, he frowned and stood up. "Elena?" He heard a gasp and ran to the room Elena was supposed to be in. He saw a grown man holding her in chokehold.
His hybrid face came out as he sped to the man and threw him to the ground. The man looked horrified by Klaus' face, he tried to crawl away but Klaus raised him to the air. He looked at him with fury. "Don't you dare to hurt her" He sank his fangs on his throat and drank from him until he was dead. He then threw the body and looked at Elena who was looking at him with fear. "Elena" She closed her eyes and nodded, trying to signal that everything was fine.
"Are you alright?" Elena nodded and tried to stand up, but she was not successful. Klaus walked to her and helped her to stand up. "You are safe now" Elena opened her eyes and looked at the man laying down. "Is he dead?" Her voice was quiet and raspy. Klaus sighed and nodded, Elena buried her head on his neck and closed her eyes. "My throat hurts" He nodded and wrapped his arms around her. "I will find water alright? It can help with your throat. You need sleep"
Klaus intended to leave but Elena did not let him go. "No, no don't leave me" Klaus sighed and looked at Elena's face with sadness. "I need to get rid of the body, then I will come back to you. You have my word" She seemed hesitant but still nodded. Klaus nodded as well and carried the man out of the house.
Elena did not ask what he did with the man, she just stood up and walked to him as he entered the house. "Are you alright? How is your throat?" Elena nodded, she did not want to talk unless it was highly necessary. Klaus nodded and closed his eyes with tiredness. He was not regretting a bit that he killed the man, he was a threat for Elena's well being. And that was something he had never thought much about, how weirdly overprotective he was over Elena. "Your clothes"
Klaus looked at the blood all over his clothes. He sighed but then frowned when Elena waved her hand and the blood stains were gone. He smiled to her proudly, he felt the same thing when she opened the door without touching. "Thank you"
She nodded, that was all along what she was doing since she stepped in this timeline. "You should sleep" Elena nodded but looked at him gloomy eyes. It was not for a specific reason, she was just sad that she could have died. "Tomorrow everything will be easier" She nodded, she was aware that she should have comforted him. "Won't you be sleeping?" He shook his head and led Elena to the bed. She looked at him with sadness and he covered her body with the bedsheets. "I will stay awake, making sure no one will enter house or try to harm you again"
"You should rest, no one will enter the house" Klaus went to protest the idea but once Elena held his hands inside hers, he couldn't find it in himself to fight. He let out a defeated sigh and nodded. Elena didn't leave his hand as he sat down at the bed. "We can share the bed" Klaus looked at her with wide open eyes, how could they sleep in the same bed when they were not married? "Have we ever shared a bed when we were-" He couldn't find the right words. Elena smiled and nodded. "We were living together, in the same house and we were sharing the same bed"
"I understand" His voice was low and firm, he laid down next to her as she laid down as well. He was trying to make sure that he was not touching her in anyway. She smiled and turned her face to him, seeing him that nervous was weird. She grabbed his hand slowly and he gulped. "There is nothing to be afraid of, you know, I am not going to kill you in your sleep"
"I am not afraid of you" He declared proudly. Elena smirked and shook her head. "Good, I am not afraid of you too" He smiled and turned his face to hers. They both continued watching each other's faces until Elena fell asleep. Klaus smiled to her sight and when he pulled all of his courage together, his hand found her hair. He smiled as the soft hair slid down through his fingers. He took a section from her hair gently and pressed his lips on her hair, because he was afraid that if he kissed her head she would wake up. He did not close his eyes that night but not because of the fear of someone breaking in. He just preferred to watch Elena sleeping soundly. At the end of the night, when the sun was rising slowly, he was able to understand why he was in love with her back in her timeline. Because she looked like she was everything he wanted to have in his future.
