"Now entering, Her majesty, the empress, Athanasia de Alger obelia and, his highness, the crown prince, Ambrose de Alger obelia!"

The cold yet elegant figure accompanied by the equally elegant prince gave off a revered yet unapproachable aura that caused people to not be able to look away.

The prince had already persuaded his mother for the first dance.

The sight of the mother and son dancing together was even more majestic and breathtaking that the surrounding nobles quietened down and focused on the dance instead.

⟨"They look so beautiful. He got the best genes from both his mom and dad." Athanasia said proudly.⟩

The dance was over and the empress walked towards the throne. Her son followed behind her.

"Come on mother, you should atleast smile today!" The prince smiled as he said.

"I remember you weren't this nervous when you pulled my hair in the past"

"Ahahaha, when did that happen, papa? I don't remember it at all..."

"You were a big trouble back then."

Incomplete memories popped up in the empress' mind as she heard her son.

My father? ..............Claude? That's right... Claude de Alger obelia...

"Your highness! You look beautiful!"

Felix...

"Your highness, you look so, so beautiful, just like your mother..."

"Thanks to all of you..hehe.."

Lilian..

These names and memories kept coming up and she didn't know what to do.

"I'm not even dying, what are you thinking making that kind of expression?"

"Look, I'm telling you, don't use that, athanasia."

"Don't go down the same path as him. I told you I'll come back.."

A voice broke all her thoughts. That voice. The one she could even recognise in her dreams.

"So, you did go down the same path as him." The voice appeared emotionless but beneath it, was endless longing that couldn't be hidden.

"......Huh? Luc-" The empress clutched her head as she mysteriously vanished from there.

The prince looked towards the throne and found it empty.

Did she go to meet the officials? No- Sir Felix would have informed me if that was the case.

He saw Felix panicking.

"Sir Felix, what's wrong?"

"Your highness? It's nothing, I just don't see her majesty..she was on the throne just moments ago.."

"It's alright, mother isn't a little child. She'll come back soon." Ambrose reassured Felix.

I sure hope she didn't go on a killing rampage. Felix thought.

".... L-lucas-" Athanasia's voice cracked as she tried to talk but a stinging pain hit her head.

"I'm here. It's alright, Athanasia." Lucas hugged her and said, his voice wasn't any better either.

All the memories gushed in, Athanasia gasped for air but it didn't help. Her eyes had lost its focus. She stayed like that for a long time before calming down.

She raised her head again to confirm if what she had seen was reality.

"Where were you all this time?!" She asked as tears were seen flowing down her beautiful face.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry, my love. I couldn't escape that curse. I couldn't come back to you. I could see everything, everytime I tried, I would be pushed further back. It took me so many years to come back, I'm sorry"

Athanasia did not respond and simply clutched her dear love with all her might.

"This must be an illusion. Yes, that's it. This is another illusion, isn't it? Oh my love, why, why do you insist on hirting me so? Why show me your face so often when all i can do is forget it for the sake of this pain?"

The broken voice of the empress reverberated in the quiet room as she held on to Lucas' body.

The pain on her love's face was also visible as he saw the dear bright face that he fell for, crumble to this. To show such weakness, just because of him.

He hugged her tightly, not letting go.

"I shouldn't have ever left you."

He would never ever leave her again.
