Chapter 11

Mag-isa ngayong nakaupo sa deck si Dahlia, sulking on one of the lounge chairs dahil masama ang gising niya. She was only in her denim shorts and white shirt na nakatulugan na rin niya kagabi at wala siyang balak na magpalit ng damit.

They all were probably still inside the boat, fighting over why Aspen slept beside her that night. It annoyed her to hell. Miguel annoyed her to hell!

Bakit ba nakikiaalam pa ito sa buhay niya? He was ignoring her the last few weeks tapos ngayon, nakikialam ito sa kanilang dalawa ni Aspen?

"Can we talk?"

Dahlia turned around to see Miguel standing behind her, brows knitted. Mukhang galit pa rin ito at irita matapos silang makita ni Aspen na magkatabi sa kama kani-kanina lang.

"Are you done beating up my fiance?" she asked emotionlessly.

"He swore nothing happened between the two of you last night? Totoo ba 'yon?"

"So what if it's true? What gives you the right to meddle in our business?" singhal niya dito. Napatayo siya sa inis sa paraan ng pagtatanong nito na para bang kailangan niyang magpaalam sa mga ginagawa niya dito.

Miguel breathed deeply. "I know wala akong karapatan na pagsabihan ka. But I know Aspen more than you do. He likes women and he likes sleeping around. He may be-"

"So what if we sleep together? We're going to get married anyway. It's better than sleeping with someone who doesn't have any intention of marrying you, right?"

He was struck at her sudden accusation. "I... i didn't know you wanted marriage as an end."

Tanga ba talaga ang lalaking 'to? "Any woman deserves to be respected, Miguel. And what happened between us the last eight years... there was no respect there whatsoever. You used me... and I guess for some reasons, I allowed it. But now, I'm standing up for myself. You don't have any right to meddle in my business anymore. Whatever is between me and Aspen are just between me and him now."

She was about to walk out and leave him but he was quick to grab her arm.

"Dahlia, I mean it when I say I want what's best for you."

"Then, you should stop talking to me from now on. I'm sick and tired of always saying goodbye to you without you meaning it. I am marrying Aspen now. No one, not even you could stop me! And one last thing, we can never be friends." Hinila niya pabalik ang braso niya at iniwan na ito sa deck.

She felt so much better after that. Nailabas niya ang galit na nasa dibdib niya. Siguro nga hindi tama na sumama siya sa bakasyon na to.

Between her and Miguel, there will never be just friendship. Palaging may bahid ng nakaraan nila because their past wasn't a joke. They were friends but they acted more like a couple than anything else.

So now, she has to set boundaries to never talk to him again. The feelings will always remain... so if she wants to straighten her path now, she has to stay as far away from his as possible. They can never go back to just being friends.

Four years ago....

"Congratulations, bro!! Cheers," sigaw ni Gio. Kasalukuyan silang nasa penthouse ni Miguel, enjoying a bottle of champagne and the company of women. Nagdala ng mga babaeng kaibigan si Gio to celebrate Miguel's promotion to COO of One Pacific Airlines.

Aspen was also there but he was busy lip-locking with a model friend brought by Gio.

"Woohoo!!!" sigaw ng isa sa mga babaeng naroon.

Miguel just smiled at them all as thanks. This was the after-party already. Nagsimula ang party kanina sa mansion nila kasama ang mga magulang nila at ang major shareholders ng airlines nila.

They were at his balcony overlooking Makati skyline. He stood up and stared at the wonderful midnight view. The air was cool and perfect for a celebration.

But something seemed to be missing.

Dahlia wasn't there. Nag-away sila a few days ago. She was so mad when news about him came out na tumatawid ng kalsada sa BGC habang kasama ang isang kilalang celebrity actress sa bansa. Their photos were all over the tabloid at nakita iyon ni Dahlia.

He sighed in disappointment. He didn't understand why she would get mad over him eating dinner out with an old friend.

Nagkataon lang na sikat ito kaya maraming paparazzing parating sumusunod. Everyone assumed it was a date just because they were seen eating together. UGH, the media.

Inubos na lang niya ng isang lagok ang natitirang champagne sa baso at pagkatapos ay ipinatong iyon sa table.

"By all means, continue the party and stay here," wika niya sa grupo. No one looked at him. Aspen was busy humping one of the models that Gio brought while Gio was engaged in a threesome with two very hot women.

He couldn't blame them. How he badly wants to get laid tonight, too!

It was a tough week at the office.

But he couldn't bring himself to just kiss a random girl. He missed his little Dahlia who was probably still mad at her.

"I'm off, you guys! Enjoy!" paalam niya sa mga ito. "I'll be back tomorrow. Don't ruin the place!"

No one even bothered to look at him so he quickly grabbed his keys and left.

In just about twenty minutes, he was right outside the mansion of the Tantocos. It was one in the morning and Dahlia was probably asleep.

Kinuha niya ang smartphone at tinawagan ito.

About five rings and a sleepy Dahlia answered the phone.

"Hello?"

"Hey, beautiful. Are you still mad at me?"

There was no reply from the other line.

"I'm outside your house. Open your balcony door. I'm climbing up."

"What? No," mariing sagot ni Dahlia. "I'm... I'm already asleep. You can't go up."

"Dahl, we haven't talked for three days. I just want to see you."

"If you want to get laid tonight, go bother some other girl!" sigaw nito sa telepono.

"I just want to share a good news. I got promoted finally. I want to celebrate with you."

Dahlia's line was quiet. She had to let him in. She, of all people, knew how much he wanted this promotion and how badly he worked hard for this!

"Dahlia..." he pushed, checking if she was still there.

"I just opened my balcony door. Come in," she calmly said.

That made him smile and made his heart swell. At the end of the day, whether he had a tough week or some good news, he always wanted to tell her. She has always been his best friend. He never could imagine a life without her.
