Oii!!"

Ichigo is once again ducking out of class, you laugh at the sight of your gym teacher chasing him around the yard. He'd forever be a troublemaker. He always did complain that gym class was boring. He never even put much effort when going over the vaults.

"Woah guys Tensa-san is a natural!"

Orihime's excitement draws your attention, and you turn just as he maneuvers over the vault easily. He lands gracefully, brushing his dark hair back nonchalantly. You're positive you're not the only girl right now ogling at him. A bunch of them are at the side blushing and giggling amongst themselves.

"Good job Tensa-san!!" Orihime is cheering and he just nods, heading to the next obstacle. Your eyes follow him. It's been about a week. Although he had a pretty rough start, he appears to be settling in better. For one the rumors have died down a little. You figure that's more because they don't see him as the new guy anymore, so the mystery is gone. In your mind, you still marvel at the subtle differences between him and Ichigo. They are total opposites. He's so calm and collected all the time. Ichigo is the hothead rebel.

"What an interesting family tree."

"(Y/N)-san watch out!!" You flinch. You were so caught up that you've ignored your surroundings. There's a baseball coming full speed ahead at you. Gritting your teeth you prepare for impact. Raising your hand, you catch it in your palm. Tightening your fist, you clench and it stops spinning.

Everyone around has relaxed, and a few of the girls from before stare in awe. It isn't until you turn with a grin to assure Orihime that you spot Tensa. He's right behind you, and his hand is raised as if he were about to grab something. He stands fully when he notices the danger has passed. You drop the ball with a raised eyebrow.

"Was he..rushing to help me?"

His eyes don't meet yours, he just walks past. "Be more careful." That same flat tone, but it's a little different. You swore you detected just a hint of worry. Orihime and Tatsuki are by your side in seconds, and Rukia is over at the boys who threw it yelling at them profusely for being reckless. Tensa's body fades out in the crowd of students now, but you're still in a daze.

The day is slowly winding down. Today you're on duty, so you're stuck with cleaning up in the class. Cleaning off the board, you watch the many students exiting together. Your fingers twitch and you grimace slightly. Catching that ball with your bare hand wasn't the smartest, but it was better than getting a head on collision. You've already had the small burn cleaned and wrapped. The gauze secured around your palm. "Are you alright?" you nearly jump at the voice.

"D-Don't sneak up on me like that!" Tensa doesn't say much, just steps inside.

"You daydream quite a lot, it's no wonder you got hurt."

An irk mark appeared on your forehead. "You trying to pick a fight."

His eyes have settled on your hand. You blink, looking at it. "H-Hey, don't look so worried. It barely even hurts."

"I'm not worried." you blanked. "You didn't have to put it like that. "

"You're a very capable person, it was foolish of me to underestimate that." So you didn't imagine him rushing to your aid. "I'm tougher than I look." You smile, showing him a thumbs up. Tensa steps closer, and your body stills when he takes your injured hand softly in his. Your cheeks flush.

"Your hands are smaller, and soft."

"W-Well of course they are, I am a girl you know!"

You're defensive because you're a bit self conscious in that aspect. You aren't exactly the most feminine. Not like Orihime, or even Rukia. Most guys were put off by your personality. Not a lot of them liked a girl that could beat them in a fight. You hated feeling defenseless. Just because you were a girl didn't mean you lack the capabilities to defend yourself. You guessed some guys were just to stupid to appreciate a woman with strength.

Tensa didn't look like he was criticising you though. More like observing. This time you're the one who reaches out, and you take his hand. He stops, blue eyes meeting your gaze.

"Thank you for earlier. If I was in trouble, I'm really glad to have such a good friend looking out for me." His eyes widen at the blissful expression on your face. Words appear to fail, so he gives a nod and you giggle at the cute expression on his face. He looks almost bashful, lowering his head.

"Do you want to walk home together? I'm almost done and I'd really enjoy the company." Before he said he preferred to be alone. Still, where is the harm in asking?

"Alright."

He doesn't say much more, and deep down you're hoping he's just as happy as you right now, even if you can't see it.
