The feeling of you tossing and turning restlessly beside her caused Handong to stir from her sleep.
Thinking that you just couldn't sleep she sat up and turned on the lamp, about to offer if she could do something to help you fall asleep.
But her heart sank when she realized that it was something more than you being unable to sleep.
She saw the look of pain in your eyes when you opened them to lock with hers.
She saw the sweat on your forehead and quickly reached over to lay her hand on it to see if you were running a fever, which you were.
"You're burning up, my love." She spoke softly and brushed her fingers through your hair.
"I don't feel good." You mumbled.
"I'm sorry, baby. I can tell something hurts. Can you tell me what's wrong?"
"My stomach is sore and I feel nauseous and hot. But I kick away the blankets just to reach for them again a few minutes later. I can't sleep and I can't stay still. Everything hurts."
You saw the sadness in her eyes when the words fell from your lips.
She tried to figure out ways to soothe you and make you feel better, but she worried that nothing she could do would help.
"What do you need, baby?"
"I don't know." You whimpered before suddenly sitting up and covering your mouth as your stomach turned.
You've felt so nauseous for the last little while but it was so much more intense than before.
You knew it wasn't going to be long before you threw up, but you didn't know how you'd make it to the bathroom when even sitting up made your entire body ache.
"I'm going to be sick." You mumbled and Handong frowned before she rubbed your back soothingly.
"It's okay. Think we can make it to the bathroom?"
You managed to shake your head a little as your mouth watered and your stomach continued to turn.
Handong quickly grabbed the empty garbage bin on her side of the bed before she went to put it in front of you and she made it just in time.
As soon as it was in front of you, you began to empty your stomach. It hurt, everything hurt.
But as unbearable as it was, you got through it with Handong's help.
She was there to hold your hair and rub your back, shushing you softly and whispering comfortingly in your ear to try to help you through it.
"I've got you. You're going to feel so much better when you're done."
You certainly hoped so, but it also felt like it was never going to end.
But, thankfully, it did just a couple of minutes later.
You dropped your head onto Handong's thigh and tried to catch your breath as she moved the can away from you, seeing that you were finally done.
You sniffled, feeling a little embarrassed since, in all the time you've been together, you've never been so terribly sick.
"It's okay. I'm right here." She soothed and kissed across your head for a loving moment. "How about we take a shower together? You're hot and your clothes are sticking to you because you're sweating so much."
"I don't know if I can stand up."
"I'll hold onto you." She promised. "You stay right here. I'm going to grab you some clean clothes and then we'll go in. Catch your breath." She whispered softly and kissed your head once more before she got up.
She grabbed one of her shirts for you to wear as well as a pair of your coziest pajama bottoms.
She grabbed some clean clothes for herself before looking at you, just to make sure you were alright before she went to start the water in the shower.
She made sure it wasn't too hot or too cold, keeping it warm to keep it as comfortable as she could for you.
She returned to your side and helped you stand before helping you into the bathroom.
She helped you out of your clothes that clung to your hot and clammy skin before she took off her own and then got into the shower with you.
The water helped you relax a little, although you still felt much too weak to be able to stand on your own.
You kept your cheek on Handong's shoulder and found comfort in the way she gently scratched her nails along your back.
"Feel okay? Still feel nauseous?"
"Not as much as I did before, but I don't feel great."
"You're probably getting the flu. It's going around." She sighed and then pulled away just a little to reach for the shampoo, although she kept one arm around you.
She washed your hair for you and then washed you down with some body wash and the feeling of the cloth brushing along your skin soothed you a little more.
You stood in there for a few more minutes until you started to feel sleepy.
Handong quickly noticed that you were feeling tired and felt it was perfect timing since the water was getting cool.
"C'mon, baby. Let's get you to bed."
You nodded tiredly and pulled away a little so she could turn off the water.
After that, she helped you out of the shower and wrapped a towel around you before guiding you to sit on the closed toilet lid.
"Will you be okay on your own just for a minute?"
You nodded and she kissed your cheek before leaving the bathroom to change the sheets, get rid of the trash can, grab you water to drink, and then grab some sheets for you to cover up with in case the blankets became too much for you.
She returned to your side and got dressed before helping you do the same.
"Before we get to bed, do you want to brush your teeth?"
"I can't. I feel too weak and tired."
"Okay." She nodded understandingly and helped you stand up, keeping her arms wrapped around you as you walked out of the bathroom and back to bed.
She helped you lay down and tucked you in.
"Are you hot or cold?"
"No. I'm comfortable right now."
"Good." She said, finding a little relief in that, although she worried it wouldn't last long with how sick you were. "I got you some water and there's a bucket on your side of the bed if you need to get sick again. Before I lay down with you, do you need anything else?"
"No, just you, Handong."
She cracked a small smile before laying down with you, scooting as close as she possibly could to you so you didn't have to move.
"I've got you. I'm right here, baby. Try to get to sleep. Maybe you'll feel better in the morning and if you don't, I'll take care of you."
"But you have practice." You mumbled as you put your head on her chest.
"I'll talk to the girls. They'll understand. I'm not letting you go until you feel better. Now, sleep, my love." She whispered and rubbed your back until you fell asleep, leaving her hoping that you'd get some much-needed deep sleep.
