“Go Jason! Goooo Jason!” Amy and I were screaming and jumping loudly. The game was in its last quarter and we required two touch downs to win this one. Even though I tried to shrug it off as if it was nothing, I could clearly see the tension vibrating off each player of our team towards Jason. And surprisingly, he had kept his cool and not even thrown one punch their way. I was so proud of him.
“Yayyy!!!” Amy’s screeching and the sudden eruption of the crowd around me broke me away from all of my thoughts.
Jason had struck again.
One to go now.
. . . .
The game just ended and we had just about managed a win, with an amazing touch down from Blake. Yeah, that asshole. Amy and I ran onto the field, to congratulate the team. We rushed onto the field and squeezed past all the other sweaty players looking for our best friend. Just then i felt someone’s clammy hands block my vision.
“Guess who?”
Instead of guessing, I pushed my elbow a little back and it made contact with the culprit’s stomach.
“Ow. What was that for?” Jason asked rubbing his stomach, while smirking slightly. And just like that I could see again. “Oh, I am sorry. Did i hurt you?” I asked him feigning innocence, while he tackled me onto the ground.
“Ames! Help!” I screamed, while he kept tickling me, right there on the field! While Amy, being the betrayer she is, just laughed and shook her head. “No way, I am enjoying this way too much.” I squealed again as Jason kept tickling me, when someone’s voice broke in, “Jason, I suggest you get off my girlfriend and go wash up.”
We both looked up to find a very angry Austin standing there. Jason, tickled me one last time, making me squeal, purposely trying to annoy Austin. And then he got of me. “Good game.” Amy said, as Jason brushed off the grass from his clothes. “Yeah, that touchdown in the ending was super!” I added. He smiled at the two of us and said, “I’ll take a minute. Wait by my car.” We nodded and he jogged off throwing one backward glance at Austin.
That left me with Amy and Austin. Amy quickly excused herself, sensing the tension in the air, while I looked everywhere but back at Austin. I had tried not to think of him, and the game had served as a major distraction. But now that he was standing here in front of me, all I wanted to do was run up to him and hug him and just feel his warmth. But, I stood my ground.
He cleared his throat, and I finally let my eyes meet his. They were the same brown but a little hard. I waited for him to say something.
“Look Ape, I know what I did there was wrong and I am really sorry.” He finally said.
I looked back at him, not saying anything and trying my very best to make sure that my face was devoid of any emotion. He continued, taking a step towards me, “I really am. I shouldn’t have done that. It was very wrong of me to do so and it was completely out of order.”
He was now standing right in front of me and I could feel his breath on my face and I felt mine go a little unsteady. “Then why did you do it?” I asked him, and he looked away. “If you knew that it was the wrong thing to do, then why did you do it Austin?” i questioned him again.
He didn’t say anything.
I turned around to leave, but he caught my hand, and turned me around.
“Don’t leave, please.” He whispered and tucked my loose strands behind my ears. “Please don’t.” I looked up at him and his hands then brushed my cheeks. “Tell me then.” I urged. He looked away again, but held onto me.
A long minute of silence followed.
“I don’t like Jason.” He finally admitted. “I don’t like the way he looks at you. The way he touches you and the way he talks about you. I don’t trust him at all Ape. He obviously doesn’t just want to be friends, he wants more. Much, much more. And I don’t like that, because you are mine. You are with me and he seems to really object that. It makes me uneasy when you are around him.”
He touched his forehead to mine, “I don’t want to ask you to stay away from him, even though I would absolutely love it if you would. But asking you to maintain a distance from him will make me seem like the controlling boyfriend that I am not. But, your trusting him doesn’t really help me in liking that guy and the idea of the two of you being friends. Best ones, at that.”
Austin closed his eyes and I was too shocked to say anything. “Please don’t hate me.” He whispered. I cupped his face in my hands and gave his lips a light peck. “Of course I don’t Austin. Of course i don’t” I repeated, and Austin roughly pushed me in for a full kiss.
His eyes were still closed and his one hand pushed me even closer while the other, wound around my head. He wouldn’t even break free to take some breath and the kiss became rougher. But, I liked it nonetheless.
He finally let go and I realised that this was the time when I had to drop the bomb. He smiled fully and, breathed a sigh of relief. I almost felt guilty spoiling this moment, but I had to do, what I had to.
“But Austin, I believe that you should apologise to Jason.” I said and instantly, his smile froze in place and his grip loosened. “I know that you don’t want to, but you did what you did unwontedly and it really hurt Jase, even if he doesn’t say. I know that you hate him, but you should apologise to him. Please. For me?” I pleaded and Austin sighed looking away.
I kept pleading and I wouldn’t stop, so Austin finally said, “Okay. But just for you and because I feel guilty of laughing and mocking him. Don’t expect me to be all okay with him after this.” I nodded, saluting, “Yes sir.”
Austin gave a slight smile, ruffling my hair, as we made our way to the car park.
Time to confront Jason. This should be interesting.
