Today started like most days. The second I opened up I recognized a few customers. Either those who had a long night or got their drinking started early in the morning.
Of course most were easy to serve as I got into my rhythm. And after they all had their first drinks I just started cleaning the glasses from the previous night.
It kept going like this for nearly two hours without any irregularities. The quick reminder- Or more accurate threat to some of the more rowdy drunks to not start fights.
But then I saw a boy walk in followed by a tall blonde woman. I recognized her of course. From a few nights back.
She'd been in one of the bar fights that I had to stop nearly immediately. But when I caught her fist from hitting another patron I knew that she was fighting with her hands.
Still I didn't give her a warning or anything as I brought her drink by drink that the boy ordered.
Stupid kid... It was obvious that he wasn't a noble. And she was simply trying to swindle him. But still. I couldn't tell him anything.
He had to learn this on his own. Or he wouldn't grow. Still... I'll at least give him a bit of a discount. I'd just add it onto the blondes tab.
And after she left he kept asking for a refill of water every now and then. Luckily it wasn't too late so wasting one table wasn't that detrimental.
And even later into the night it was a bit of a slower day. So he just stayed there before finally I began stacking up the chairs and gathering the discarded glasses.
I finished at every stop but his and looked at him with my arms crossed as he looked up at me.
???: "Ah. Sorry but I'm waiting for someone. I'll only be here a bit longer-"
Y/n: "Kid... You got tricked. She's not coming back."
???: "... WHAT?!!!" He said suddenly raising his voice.
(Mini time skip)
It only took a bit longer to handle the rest of the cleaning after the boy finally left. And after closing for the night I was able to finally get back on track.
With my latest source of Intel I heard about a noble family who were thought to be responsible for multiple missing traveler's. Only a few sightings but it was late at night. Which would be the best chance for them to do so.
But they weren't the only ones who could go undetected in the dark. So I went to my home and grabbed my claymore strapping it onto my back.
Actually getting to the territory wasn't the hard part. I could avoid most of the guards patrolling in town or on the estate. The hard part was that I wanted valid evidence before I did anything.
So after leaping over a wall I landed barely making a sound. And began getting to work. Of course the house wouldn't show anything. They might have a guest that would see it.
So that was out. That also cut out basements. Unless they were hidden. And no cellars around. It seemed like I was going to have to go into the house for a search at this rate.
But that was before I noticed something else. A warehouse like building. Either that was for storage or I would find... Something there. I slowly made my way to it and put my ear to the door.
I didn't hear anything for a long moment. Just the deafening silence of the night. And just as I was about to pull my hand away I heard something akin to a groan.
Immediately I made sure there were no guards nearby before I opened the door.
Immediately I froze in place for a moment. The smell of blood and rotting flesh hit my nose immediately. But still. I didn't cover my nose. I'd seen this in the capital. The despicable murderers.
