~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Prologue ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
" Junior riders, you may now proceed to the first six carriages. Remember to bring along all your suitcases and stuffs as we will not be turning back if any of your belongings are left behind. " calls out Mrs. Dempsey to the junior riders, wiping off the droplets of sweats on her forehead and boards the carriage after them.
The second call is from Mr. Longman, a man with a long moustache which dangles like a lazy snake on a tree. " Senior riders, come along! We are almost late for the ceremony! The rest of you will have the last five carriages. Dearies, wave goodbye to mummy and daddy now and off we go! "
The pegasus each let one last neigh as if saying farewell to the parents that stand waving behind the railings too, then give a strong kick and soar to the forget-me-not sky, expanding their wings that have not stretched for weeks.
First years are staring out of the window glass, gapping in awe. Some are feeling a bit dizzy as it is quite a bumpy flight. Some are pointing at the fluffy clouds that "float" in mid-air like floating cotton candies. Others just lie back and close their eyes, whilst some good graders take the golden opportunity to study ahead and revise what was taught last term, afraid to receive an A minus written on their test papers.
After thirty minutes of flight, the pegasus pulling the carriages finally land on an empty prairie then comes to a halt. Seniors are still lazying on the soft cushions in their carriages, reluctant to get out because once they get out of the carriage, it means no resting comfortably for three months.
Mrs. Dempsey is getting impatient, she cocks her head and taps her foot. " So the rest of you in the carriage are unwilling to get out huh? I'm fine with it, maybe I should just release the hook and let the pegasus take off, with the rest of you in it. No riding and seeing your horses for three months. " Mrs. Dempsey sneers and pretends to walk towards the carriage to release the hook.
" No, Mrs. Dempsey! Just feeling a bit dizzy because of the bumpy flight, that's all. We'll get off now. " The seniors answer quickly and step out of their carriage like a group of obedient kids as they are quite afraid of the cold stare from Mrs. Dempsey.
" Alright, enough of the lectures. Now young riders, I am distributing a bracelet allowing you to pass any entries on the other side. With this, you may enter and cross ' the line ' . " Mr. Longman holds up his twinkling bracelet engraved with a horse on it to show his first year students.
The first years each receives a bracelet and holds them like jewels. One of them, called Tarsha asks " Coach, what if we lost 'em? Mother will buy us new ones, will they? " She says in a matter-of-factly tone, with a strong british accent, which clearly states that she is the daughter of one of the duchess in England.
Mr. Longman sighs and frowns. " Dear princes and princesses, not anything can be bought with money. This is one of the lessons which is brought up every year. This bracelet is the most precious thing once you are in the academy. The lost of this bracelet means no going out of ' the line ' , trapped. Did I make this clear? " He folds his arms and looks at them, waiting for answers.
" Yes, Mr. Longman. " the first years reply shortly.
" Sir, please spare me a minute to ask you a question. What do you mean ' the line ' ? What's that? " A boy with eyes of aquamarine raises up his hands and asks.
" Impressive, young gentleman. Well, ' the line ' means an invisible magical border between this world and the other world where our academy is situated. " Mr. Longman smiles to the little boy, giving him a thumbs up.
Mrs. Dempsey is already checking after the seniors, leading them carefully over ' the line ', she lip-syncs, asking Mr. Longman to hurry up. Mr. Longman gets the signal and quickly chases the juniors, helping them to cross the border one by one, hoping to get everyone pass before the school ceremony starts.
* To be continued * :)
