Ella's POV

We raced through the fields. I heard the bees buzzing helping the flowers which were in bloom. The steady stream dividing the field in half. I watch him jump over it with ease. The water rushing as I see small minnows that just hatched swimming to the bigger river down the stream. I leap as well after taking in the living creatures. I stuck the landing and we continue to run through the fields. The birds flying back from their winter vacation. They filled the skies singing their songs to each other. The freshly cut grass filled my nose. The smile on my face stretched ear to ear. My smile reaching my eyes.

The boy running ahead of me looks back.

"Don't worry. I'm on my way," I call out to him.

He looks forward, but not in time to see the stick in front of him. He goes down face first into the cut grass.

I run over to him and he flips over facing the beautiful blue sky.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"Of course, once I fall, I'll always get up," he assures me.

I laugh at him after the worry passes over me. He just frowns and pouts a little.

"You know you're my best friend?" He says to me.

His green eyes looked into mine. He had the biggest smile on his face.

"I know, and you are mine," I smile laying down next to him.

We stared at the clouds for a while; pointing out all the animals and random objects we see move steadily across the sky that was now turning into a bright shade of orange.

"Ella, Colton," My father called.

"Time to go El," he stood up and extended his hand for me to take it.

I grabbed his hand and we walked together up to my house where both of our families were gathered.

"There is the birthday boy!" Colton's mother cheered.

She ran up to him and hugged him spinning him around.

"Thanks Momma," He hugged her back.

Colton stayed the night last night for a sleepover. We've been best friends forever, since I was like a baby.

My parents decorated the back patio for his birthday. A sign was out hung over the glass sliding door. It spelt out 'H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y' I only knew the first word, it was happy. The unknown word I tried to sound out, but gave up.

My mother brought out a cake with a number 6 candle on top.

I watched as Colt blew out his candles thinking of a wish before hand.

Everyone cheered including me.

Colt's father cut up the cake and handed it out to both families.

We started eating the cake and our parents threw compliments to my Mother who made it.

"Colton!" I yelled as I wiped the cake that he threw at me off my face.

He laughed at me, so I threw some back. I hit him right in the face as well.

He stopped laughing and squinted his eyes in annoyance.

Now I was laughing at him.

Soon his whole slice of cake met my face.

I scraped the cake off my face and threw my cake including the paper birthday plate at him.

It got everywhere. All over his neon orange shirt and jeans that had grass stains from when he fell in the field a couple hours earlier.
