On one sunny afternoon, Meg Thomas the (not so saintly) protagonist is sitting on her couch at her apartment. She was slumped on the couch, whilst dvds of shitty dramas played on the tv. She forgot to pay the cable bill this month, which is why she's watching random dvds that she found around the apartment, which took a while since the apartment is filthy.
Meg got up from the couch and turned off the tv. "I don't think I can watch any more of this," she complained before stomping off to the kitchen. Her apartment isn't the worst apartment ever, but with how Meg takes care of it it looks like it could qualify as a landfill. At least her side of the apartment. Meg shares the apartment with her roommate, Alise, though the two rarely see each other. Alise works as a science teacher at a high school not too far away, but could probably become a professor if the nearest college weren't so far. The only reason she shares an apartment with Meg is because she is scared Meg will end up dead due to the lack of clean air from the trash piled up. If Meg could actually live in an apartment like a normal person, Alise thinks she would probably be living somewhere much nicer.
Meg, on the other hand, is currently unemployed. She got fired from her job at a local motel because she "accidentally" spilt bleach all over a guest's room. The guest may or may not have made Meg mad beforehand by asking too many questions. Meg worked there for a year, and it was the only job she had after escaping the entity's realm.
Everyone escaped from the entity about 2 years ago. Nobody is really sure how everyone managed to escape. Instead of going back to the time they were taken, they all went to 2021. Since most survivors were taken before 2021, they had to adjust to everything, some more than others. Some poor survivors were taken years before 2021, and found it difficult to track down everyone they knew and tell them what happened. For a while after they escaped, they mostly stuck together to get used to normal life and then everyone decided to move away from each other to get used to being without everyone else. They all still try and keep in touch though, despite some not responding to any messages.
Meg shook her head to try and focus on what to eat instead of dwelling on the past. "Dennys is open, right?" She questioned herself. "I think I'll go get that." She walked out the door and locked it behind her, heading down the hall to the stairs and then outside. "I should run there, haven't had a good run in a while," Meg decided.
The wind pressed against her face as she ran almost as fast as an ostrich to Dennys. Along the way, she got flipped off multiple times by drivers because she doesn't obey pedestrian laws very well. She was running when she pushed over a dark blue haired man. "Move, whore." She yelled at the man. Meg continued her run, without any sympathy for the man she knocked over.
Since it was May in the state Meg lived in, Iowa, the weather was quite nice. Meg is not entirely sure why she decided to move there, but she thinks part of her wanted quiet. The town she lived in seemed nice and quiet on the outside, but not so nice if you lived there. Meg likes to say that almost everyone there is "pretty fucking weird" which isn't too far from the truth. She has thought about moving away multiple times, but has no idea where she would even go. Plus, one or two survivors also chose to live near where Meg lives. "I should check up on them," Meg said to herself, while keeping on running.
Meg arrived at the Dennys. She barely broke a sweat "That run was nice," She beamed. She looked around, noticing it wasn't that busy, but seemed busier than it should at 1:30 pm. "Alright, let's hope this is quick. I'm hungry as hell." She said as she opened the doors and walked in.
If only Meg knew at the time what going to Dennys would do.
