Mum's P.O.V
"Here's your beautiful baby girl, Mrs White."
The midwife passes me a fluffy pink blanket, with our newborn daughter curled up inside. Jim walks over to take a good look at our tiny baby girl.
"Oh, no! "
He begins to sweat and look uncomfortable.
"What's wrong? "
Now I'm beginning to sweat and feel uncomfortable.
"She has pink hair! She's a main character!"
I unwrap the bundle to find my husband right, she's also cursed with bright purple and blue eyes that sparkle with curiosity. I'm crushed; all I wanted was a healthy, happy baby. I don't know if I can handle a main character.
"Jim, what are we going to do? "
"I - I don't don't know! "
The midwives turn to each other in shock, "We're so sorry!"
My husband bites his lip and rubs his forehead, a nervous habit that he has. "Honey, I don't know if I can handle this."
"Well we can't just put her up for adoption, she's our child. Our little Serenity. Look at her Jim, she's ours. "
"I know but, "
"It's okay, we'll find a way to give her a normal life."
Jim still looks skeptical.
"Look at her, and tell me that you can just give her up? "
Jim continues to bite his lip as he gazes into Serenity's eyes. I can see that he's softening.
"Okay, you're right. I can't just leave her. "
One of the midwives tapped me on the shoulder, "I hate to say it but, no matter how hard you try...she will one day have to accept her birthright. "
The thought of her being right chills me to the bone.
"I know, but at least she might be able to choose."
Jim gives me a sympathetic grimps. I know what he's thinking, because I'm thinking that exact same thing, how are we even going to try to keep her from her destiny?
