——————————🏹——————————"Some say our destiny is tied to the land, as much a part of us as we are of it."
"Others say fate is woven together like a cloth. So that one's destiny intertwined with many others."
"It's the one thing we search for or fight to change."
"Some never find it. But there are some who are led."
King Fergus threw a bunch of men who where attacking him off, and continued to beat each and every one of them.
"The story of how my father lost his leg to the demon bear Mor'du became legend."
One man hit Fergus's wooden leg with his sword, getting it stuck. He looked up into Fergus's furious face, before getting thrown into a shelf of weapons.
"I became an older brother to three new ones."
A maid was walking down the hall caring a tray of sweets, when one was plucked from the tray with a fishing rod. Another prince came out of a wardrobe and snatched one as well. The third ran around her and replaced the tray of sweets with a flower pot.
"The princes. Hamish, Hubert and Harris. Wee devils more like."
The boys jumped out the window and into a catapult, which one of them set off, sending the three flying into a hay cart.
"They get away with murder. I can never get away with anything."
The doors opened to reveal a much older Prince Merid biting into an apple. He froze in place when he saw that everyone was looking at him.
"I'm the prince."
Across the throne room, Queen Elinor sighed and motioned for him to hurry up.
"I'm the example."
Merid finished taking a bite of the apple, and wiped his mouth with his sleeve, before smiling and stomping down the aisle. As he passed, everyone bowed down to him in respect.
"I've got duties, responsibilities, expectations. My whole life is planned out, preparing for the day I become well, my mother."
Merid plopped down onto his throne, and cast a look at a pretty young maid who was standing in the corner of the room. This was (Y/n). She had grown into a beautiful young woman, and had been working as a maid in the castle ever since the day she and Merid had met. (Y/n) sent him a small wave, which he returned. He turned back to see his mother giving him a look of horror at his performance. Merid just rolled his eyes and slumped in his chair.
"She's in charge of every single day of my life."
...
In the throne room, Merid stood in the middle singing a song he had rehearsed.
"Aye, Robin, Jolly Robin, and thou shalt know of mine." He sang in a very bored tone, looking like he would rather be anywhere else.
"Project!" Elinor announced from up above.
"And thou shalt know of mine!" He said louder.
(Y/n) was cleaning the large candelabras that were against the wall. She and Merid made eye contact and she gave him a sympathetic smile. He smiled back, and she went to cleaning, but he continued to stare at her.
"Enunciate. You must be understood from anywhere in the room, or it's all for naught." Elinor explained.
"This is all for naught." Merid grumbled, making (Y/n) giggle at him.
He looked back at her and smiled, listening to her angelic laugh.
"I heard that, from the top!" Elinor instructed, making Merid sigh.
...
"A prince must be knowledgeable about his kingdom." Elinor told him.
Elinor was pointing to a map with a stick, instructing Merid, who sat at a desk. Merid was not paying attention at all and was instead, doodling on a piece of paper. (Y/n) walked in carrying more books, and Merid stopped what he was doing and looked up at her, watching her every move.
Elinor noticed that Merid wasn't paying attention, and grabbed his paper off his desk and looked at it.
"He does not doodle." She scolds holding up a poorly done picture of her that Merid had drawn.
...
Elinor and Merid were playing instruments, while (Y/n) sat in the corner sewing.
Merid played a wrong note.
"That's a C dear." Elinor corrected.
Merid tried to hit the correct note, but got it wrong again. A hand grabbed his and placed it in the correct position. He looked up and saw that (Y/n) was the one who corrected him.
"Thanks (Y/n)." He said.
She smiled. "No problem." And went back to sewing in the corner. Merid kept sneaking glances at her all throughout the lesson.
...
Merid and Fergus were standing in a field, each holding a hawk. When Merid lifted the mask off the hawk, he flew right at Fergus's face. He screamed as the hawk attacked him, while Merid snorted with laughter at his father's predicament.
Elinor sat at a table underneath a tent for shade, while (Y/n) stood behind her. Elinor looked over and saw what was happening.
"A prince doesn't chortle." She scolded.
Merid rolled his eyes and looked over at (Y/n) who was trying hard not to laugh as well. They looked eyes and smiled to each other.
...
It was dinner and Merid was stuffing his face with food.
"Does not stuff his gob!" Elinor criticized.
...
"Rises early." Elinor said, cheerfully pulling back the curtains in Merid's bedroom, revealing an exhausted prince.
...
"Is compassionate." Elinor informs, while a chickens head is being cut off.
...
"Patient."
...
"Cautious!"
...
"Clean."
...
Elinor climbed up a set of stairs, her arm looped with Fergus's.
"And above all, a prince strives for...well, perfection." She stated.
This made Merid look over at (Y/n), who was sweeping the floor, and he smiled.
