You know that moment when your brain just malfunctions, that moment when everything goes blank and you're at a loss of words. That's exactly how I felt with Blake and Chloe around me. It was the same way I felt in highschool.
The exact way I'd promised myself never to feel, growing up I'd always been the ugly duckling, the outcast and I'd thought college would be different, a new start— guess not.
" Well, are you gonna try and deny it?" Chloe asked with an eye roll. " Aren't you the girl who poured coffee on Bee's shirt this morning"
My face paled and I nodded slowly. " About that, I'll pay for your shirt"
No you won't, that was a Charmaine Greg brand, costs a fortune.
Blake stared at me for a long while as if trying to figure something out, I shifted from one foot to the other and cleared my throat.
" And about all this, I dropped my phone and uh. I was picking it up just now" I lied through my teeth, my palms sweating from the little act.
Blake scoffed, pushing the same unruly strand of golden blonde hair behind her ear, she turned to face Chloe and whispered something into her ear, they started murmuring and a small but strong voice in my head told me to get a move on it, to turn around and run like my butt was on fire, I looked over my shoulder, the parking area was empty, everyone either had class or was at the library studying.
I cleared my throat as Blake turned back to face me, a spine chilling smile on her lips, Chloe had the same look on hers, making me uneasy. I shifted my weight to the other leg.
I should've just stood up for myself.
Yeah like it was that easy, plus it wasn't like they were doing anything to me yet and it wasn't like I couldn't stand up for myself, I was just overly sympathetic and a little clumsy, guess people tend to see that as a weakness.
" We have a proposal for you. It'll cover the cost of my shirt and your stalking—"
Stalking.
I internally rolled my eyes. It was not stalking!
Was it?
Blake folded her arms across her chest while Chloe grinned.
" Well, I guess I can help, what is it, do you need me to tutor you, I'm really good at advanced economics and Business studies, if it's food related though I can't cook"
I already had a ton of expenses, if I could get rid of one it would be a dream come true.
They exchanged glances and nodded at each other. Suddenly making me uncomfortable.
Why did this feel like a trap. I swallowed the ball of nerves clogging my throat, getting startled when my phone vibrated in my hand.
" We need your help, but look at this as helping yourself too— we can't talk here though how's about dinner at my place, you can check my address on my Instagram" Blake chirped.
I felt my eyes widened, her house— how fast can she change moods, she was crying just a minute ago and yelling at me this morning but now she'd mysteriously turned so determined.
Creepy.
What could they want.
Why are you complaining Lily, you don't have any friend, your roommate's a total creep and it'll make dad happy, he already thinks you're weird for being so up tight for a college student.
Damnit dad. We have dinner plans.
" Ow I can't tonight, what is this about"
Chloe sighed and her grin fell, she glared at me.
