MYLA

"Hi, mommy," I run around the desk to hug her.

"Hi, baby girl," Mom grins down at me, kissing my cheeks. "Where's your sister?"

I went to answer her but didn't need to. Covering a yawn, Ilse steps through the door. "Hi."

"Tired?" Mom asks her.

Ilse shrugs. "A little. I woke up at 4 this morning to study for my math test. I hate probability."

I swallow the giggle threatening to come out, when Ilse shoots me a glare. Ilse had to wake up early to study because she stayed up to watch the Harry Potter marathon with Dad and our brothers.

"What are we doing today?" I bounce on the balls of my feet. It's been so much fun going to competitions every week; I can't wait to find out what we're doing this week.

"You'll find out," Mom teases me, and I cross my arm, a pout on my face. That I didn't like. I don't really like surprises. "Go on, go get changed."

"Okay, we're going," Ilse gently shoves me to the den. "We'll see you in a few."

Entering the den, I smile at the Moms and girls.

"Hi, Myla," Maddie runs up to hug me. I hug her back; Maddie's been my best friend since forever. I was really glad we got to dance in the same team.

After changing, Mom calls us into the studio.

"Vivi-anne, where's your dance clothes?" Mom asks. I look back to see that Vivi-anne was, in fact, in everyday wear.

"It's in the car," Vivi-anne replies.

"You need to be dressed and ready to dance when you walk into this building. Yes?" Vivi-anne nods, and Mom turns to the blackboard. "I wanna recap a little bit about the competition. Now there are some things that went on at the competition that you maybe don't even know about."

"Your Mom was upset about the costume," Mom points at Chloe before pointing at Nia. "Your Mom was upset about the costume before you even went on stage, but that cannot happen again. Let's talk about what we're going to do this weekend, we're going to New Jersey, and we are going to do an acrobatic gymnastics routine."

I giggle silently when Mom struggles to turn the blackboard. I beam when my picture was second-- Ilse was on top. "Overall, I evaluated all of your performances. Ilse, you did as expected. You won your division and the title, so I placed you where you deserved, on top.

"Myla, your performance was energetic, clean, and you won the title. I'm very proud of you," My heart flutters at Mom's words. "Now for the group, Brooke will be the lead; Brooke, I expect you to help the younger students, and I expect you to know the choreography first and be able to help everybody else."

I look behind me to see Brooke nod in agreement.

"Good," Mom nods. "Nia, Paige, you'll be doing the tumbling parts and the acro parts. Vivi-Anne, because you're new here and don't know all of our terminologies, I'm going to work privately with you this week, so then you're gonna do a solo at the completion. Myla, you have a solo this week."

Mom gives me a specific look, and I nod in understanding. Mom has done this before-- I wasn't getting a solo because off last week I was getting a solo because she didn't think Vivi-Anne would do well, and she wants me to win.

"Alright, girls, let's go. Get up, get ready to rehearse. Moms, thank you very much," Mom waves her arms to the door, and the moms leave. Stretching my arm forward, I stand. "Vivi, don't forget you need to be in dance clothes whenever you walk into this room. Alright?"
