TILLY

"That was total bull shit!" said Lizzie angrily kicking an empty coke can.

I put my arm round her "You've only got another year until your 18" I said trying to comfort her.

The man selling the Pimms wouldn't let us have a drink since we are under the legal age to drink alcohol.

" Yer, I guess so" Lizzie jumped up smiling suddenly. I was confused by her sudden change in emotion. "We don't need drink to have a good time do we? I'll check whose playing first in the yellow field and this field"

Lizzie got out her festival of LIFE leaflet. I looked over her shoulder and read who was playing tonight.

THURSDAY:

Red field, main stage- KT Tunstall 9:00pm

Red field, tent no.2- The Vaccines 11:30pm

Yellow field, main stage- Corinne Bailey Rae 10:15pm

Yellow field, tent no.3- The Mouldy Peaches 9:30pm

Yellow field, tent no.4- Paolo Nutini 10:00pm

Yellow field, tent no.5- Blur 10:30pm

Yellow field, tent no.6- Wax Taylor 9:00pm

I gasped "We have to go and see Blur! Liz, please" I said getting excited again.

"Calm, Tills" said Lizzie teasingly "Look KT Tunstall is playing on the main stage in half an hour. Let's stay to see her and then go to Blur and then to The Vaccines?"

Iwas so excited and happy but so nervous I was lost for words.

We found a space in the crowd as everyone built up around the main stage in the red field. A camera man sat in the corner ready to film us to go on TV.

Everyone around me was loud it was too squashy and I couldn't breathe. Lizzie held my body up before I fell over.

"Come on Tills don't pass out before the show has even started. Just breathe like this" Lizzie inhaled air deeply and then breathed out. I copied her for a bit and then felt much better. It didn't seem that bad at all.

The noise had died down and it sounded like everyone was shouting in the distance.

"WOO!" I shouted punching the air with my right fist.

"WOO!" Lizzie copied me laughing. "That's the spirit" she called to me over everyone else.

Suddenly the lights on the stage went on. They were purple and seemed to glow in the dark like the light at the end of a long cold tunnel. Lizzie grabbed hold of my hand and we held are breaths preparing ourselves for the first big show of the festival.

The band came out they waved to us like they'd done this a thousand times. They looked cool and casual but classy, they took their places at their instruments. A few cheers flew around the fans.

Then a voice boomed across the heads of the crowd "Give it up for..... KT Tunstall" there was a few seconds of silence before every single person that was squashed up watching eagerly was clapping, screaming and shouting. Out the singer stepped. She strutted onto the stage in long gold boots.

The microphone gave a screech as it turned on. "Hello all" she said " Thanks for coming. Starting off the festival...."

"Do you want one?" I heard Lizzie's voice coming from somewhere but from shock I couldn't tell where. I felt a hand shake my arm. I turned to face my best friend. It was like I had awakened from a long sleep.
