I went home with Eliot. When he moved to northern Alaska from eastern Henry, snowy, cab and I had thrown a welcome party. He joined our 1st grade class and that was when we really did become best friends.
His dad had left them but his mom was still there. She often invited me over to cook, sew, knit, paint or something like that. Henry's mom liked me to but we weren't as close. Henry's dad had also left but he had a aunt living with him as well. I found it easier to be friends with boys then to girls. Boys were sporty, fun, not full of drama, and defintly hilarious. I felt like I belonged.
"So," Eliot asked." Want to go to the libary tommorow? After school?"
"Sure. But with 2 snow days this week we might not have any school."
" Knock on wood".
I knocked on a tree."Happy?"
"Very."
"Sign ups saterday . Exited?"
"Defiantly. You?"
"Defiantly."
We rode up the hotel elevator stinking, you could smell it from miles away. To me it was professional.
