Mordecai stood still silently gazing at his new school for the next year, Canterlot High. It was his last year of high school and he really wasn't excited to be spending it here.

'Of all high schools, Really? What a pain..'

"Tch."

He frowned at the school hoping the year would go by without any trouble. He trudged forward putting his headphones on, scrolling through his playlist full of 'Panic at The Karaoke Place', 'Imagine Dinosaurs', and 'Twelve Pilots'. Just as he was about to pick a song he had gotten a text from his best friend, Rigby. Rigby happened to be the only friend he made in Art School. He was a music artist, a great one actually. He's the lead guitarist of his own band 'Devo'.

Riggy: hey mordie, hope u have fun @ sch00l. say hi 2 raritiey 4 meee thx br0

Mordecai chuckled at his friend's text. Rigby always seemed to lighten his mood.

Me: Yea yea, thanks! (you spelled her name wrong again btw)

Riggy: gah, your 2 formal mordie w/e ;(

Rigby was never one for correct grammar and punctuation. Although Mordecai always told him about why he should be using correct grammar and punctuation, he never listened. He sighed at his companions' text, putting his phone away and walking through the school doors.

----------

Months before Mordecai was assigned to Canterlot High, his class had been told they were selected to be a part of a transfer student program and were required to choose their top 3 choices of high schools in different areas. Unfortunately, all the schools he had chosen were full. (Elmore Junior High in Vallejo, Riverdale High in Malibu, and Lawndale High in Carter Country)

"Mordecai! You should choose Canterlot High my girlfriend goes there ya know?"

"Yea I do know Riggy, but I am not choosing that school. Do you know how awkward it would be to see your girlfriend every day?" he nudged at his friend and laughed.

"Sure sure, I just think it would be cool. I mean who knows! You might find someone there." Rigby smirked and winked. Mordecai looked at his friend seriously.

"No! I just broke up with Margret. NO more relationships for a while.." He hugged his arms looking at the floor scowling.

He had been with Margaret for 3 long years. He was the happiest when he was with her, everything seemed to be going well. Until she just ended it with him.

FLASHBACK

"Mordecai, it's not working out. I-I'm sorry."

"What do you mean? It's been 3 years! How long has it 'not been working out'?!" He was frustrated and angry with her.

"I-I don't know. I'm just not.. happy anymore." She sighed, turning around. "Please Mordecai, Just leave. It's over."

Minutes of complete silence.

"Fine, if that's what you want." He said coldly, walking away from her house.

END FLASHBACK

His heart raced at the despairing memory.

"Sorry Mordie, I was just joking." He squeezed his friend's shoulder in a comforting way.

"Thanks." He gave a small smile.

'Class 2-AB'

Scanning through the names of every class he walked by, he observed the students at the school. To his surprise quite a few girls stared at him talking with one another. One girl walked up to him.

"Hey there! Are you new here? I haven't seen you around before! Welcome to Canterlot! My name is-"

"Sorry Goodbye!"

He hurried off quickly looking at classroom names hoping his class would show up. Miraculously, it did.

'Crap, definitely not a great first impression. Way to go Mordecai'

He thought storming into the classroom, closing the door behind him.

"Excuse me young man, why are you in such a hurry?"

'Crap! Mordecai fails at a first impression yet again!'

He took his headphones off quickly, not wanting to keep his teacher waiting for a response.

"Sorry Miss, I just wanted to get to class on time." As he finished his sentence the final bell rang.

"Very well then" She adjusted her glasses. "Name please?"

"Mordecai. Erm Mordecai Jayfisher."

"Excellent. Welcome to Canterlot high. My name is Ms. Shadow."

"Ah, nice to meet you." He said awkwardly.

She gestured for him to take a seat. He looked around the room. A few seats in the front were empty, but everyone knows the front is for the smart people(definitely not his type of thing). The middle was somewhat empty but he didn't feel like he was fit for being average. The back was his last option. In his brain, the back rows were for people who wanted to be left(definitely his type of thing). He swiftly took one of the last seats in the back row. Taking out his notebook and pencil he started to hope the year would go by quickly.

----------

Riggy: hey hey hows it goin?/ have you met rarieity yet>??

Me: No, she did text me saying that I would see her at lunch though.

He sighed, rubbing his nose bridge. He was halfway through the day, completely ready to go to his dorm, lay down, and take a 3 hour nap. Without looking where he was going he bumped into someone. Hearing a loud crash, he opened his eyes to see a girl on the floor with books laid all around her. Without hesitation, he reached down and started to pick up books. 'The Complete Pony History', 'Shakes-a-pear: The Best of His Work', and many more erm, ...nerdy...books.

"I'm so sorry!" a small voice was heard in front of him. She looked up scicere and apologetic, helping him pick up her books. She looked cute. Her glasses were big and blocky, her midnight blue hair with purple and pink streaks were tied in a high ponytail, and her eyes were a captivating, sparkly violet.

"Ah, no worries. I should have looked where I was going." Rubbing his neck, he awkwardly chuckled and smiled at her.

"T-Thank you." She took the rest of her books, stood up, and hurriedly scurried away.

'What was that about?' he pondered. Forgetting about what had just happened, he stuffed his hands in his pockets and drifted his way back to his last class before lunch.
