EXCERPT:
"Yes, I drove that far."
"Did I say that out loud?"
"Yes, you di-," he begins to say before we were interrupted by a scream.
My scream.
The car spins clockwise, the tires leaving evident skid marks on the road, and eventually came to a stop on the roof of the car. The roof of our new car is spinning; The straight beam holding it up is now twisted, almost like a wave. My head feels like it is underwater.
I am trying to swim to the surface, but the harder I tried, the more exhausted I feel. Even though I kept trying, I am being thrown around, pulled under and then launched upwards for a rare moment of consciousness. A face appears in my distorted vision.
"Jesse?" I mumbled.
The man chuckles, and I think he shakes his head.
God damn, my head feels as if it is self-destructing.
The mysterious man picks me up like I weigh nothing and places me in the back of the car.
"We... her... Jesse... his... brother..." I groan in annoyance. Why can't I concentrate properly, or move for that matter? The man comes back and gazes over me, a sense of pity in his orphic, grey eyes.
A white car pulls up, and a girl, no older than 18, similarly drags Jesse into the backseat. I try to stand up or retaliate at all. Unbearable waves of vertigo and piercing white visions force me back down. Even in this state, I know I am concussed.
Then the man closes the door.
Dissimilarly to the last time the darkness overtook me, my heart clenches in sadness. I have already been caught.
