She woke up to the sound of pecking on her window. She looked out her window to see a black bird pecking on the glass. She got up and walked to the window opening it letting the bird fly in and land on his perch.
"Hello Edgar, did you have fun last night?" The bird tilted it's head at her and she smiled. "I'll take that as a no... not that there's much to do here in this stupid town..."
She walked downstairs to find her mom already gone and her dad passed out on the couch surrounded by alcohol bottles. She sighs and grabs some food and buts it in a bag and leaves for the park.
At the park she sits on a bench drawing people as they walk by. She was always interested in all the different types of people. As she drew she let her mind wander until a large red blob fell on her sketchbook. She looked up to see three guys the one closest to her was holding a hot dog with enough ketchup for four people.
"Whatcha drawin' bird girl?"
"My name is Raven."
"Yeah, yeah Raven, Freak same thing." She clenched her fist.
"What do you want Luke?"
"To ruin your day as always!"
"Well you've gotten your filth on my picture so there you go good job see you tomorrow." She tears out the paper and starts resketching.
Luke forced the book from her hands and throws it to the larger boy behind him. Raven got up to retrieve it but he the throws it and it lands in a large puddle. Raven clenched her fist and glares at Luke.
"You're going to pay for that."
"I don't have to give you my money! Not for a dumb book!"
"Oh I wasn't meaning with money... trust me you'll know when the time comes. You'll see what I mean." Raven picked up her ruined sketchbook and carried it home with her.
At dinner her mom ate quickly then left for her second job while her dad drank 5 bottles of beer. Her father started yelling at her for her appearance and started his normal verbal abuse. Raven ignored him by picking up her book and reading. When he had finally gone to sleep she went to the kitchen and retrieved a knife.
She slipped out the front door and walked towards the other side of town. She hid the knife in a slit in her black boots. Her long brown hair blew in the wind. She kept walking careful not to draw suspicion as she came up to the house she was looking for. She had never wanted to hurt anyone before until tonight. Rage burned inside her and she kept hearing one word echo in her head.
"Nevermore" She whispered. She came to a window at the side of the house and sure enough there he was. The boy who had tortured and bullied her so long layer in his bed fast asleep. Nevermore, no more bullying. Nevermore, no more sadness. Nevermore, and no more Luke.
She pushed on the window to find it unlock. She wasn't surprised since he was known to sneak out and cause troubles on some nights. She slowly and quietly raised the window up and slipped into the room. She could feel her heart race as he turned in his sleep. She grabbed the knife from her boot and slowly started inching her way towards the bed. Nevermore, nevermore, nevermore. She got to the edge of his bed and put the knife to his throat. Right as he woke up she made one quick motion and he was dead, the light escaping his eyes. She looked around to make sure no one saw her and she put the knife back, cleaned her prints from the window and made an escape leaving no trace she was there. She took the back way home so she wasn't spotted and she slipped back into her house, past her once again passed out father and went up to her bedroom and lays there the rest of the night wondering. Will they find me? What happened to me? What have I done? What have I become?!
