— Chapter Six —

Donghyuck didn't want to get up. In his sleepy mind he knew that he should for some reason but he didn't. It was like those five more minutes of precious sleep before you had to wake up and get ready for school. Except Donghyuck was an adult and there was no school. Only a zombie apocalypse.

Right. Donghyuck had almost forgotten. He opened his eyes, not very eagerly so because god, these blankets were comfy. It was all just so warm and quiet and he wanted it to stay like this, not the cold and stress that would await him once he officially decided himself to be awake.

Finally, after a few more minutes of peaceful silence in which Donghyuck pretended to be be unknowing to his own situation, he rose up. The shirt he was still wearing, his shirt full of dried tear stains and sweat, had fallen down to his collarbones and Donghyuck shivered as the cool air in the room met his newly exposed skin.

With a sigh of resignation he lifted up the covers. His bladder announced that a visit to the bathroom was needed so he gave in, making his way to the en-suite bathroom. When looking in the mirror after washing his hands, he only now realized how bad he looked. Hair all messy, imprints of the pillow on his face and arms and shirt all crunched up. He checked the bathroom door, locking it. Surely the stranger who was probably waiting outside wouldn't mind his guest taking at least a short shower before sending him into his suicide mission.

The shower did wonders. Washing all the sweat off and smelling the earthy scented shampoo felt like heaven to Donghyuck and he scrunched his nose in wonder at how quickly he had come to this point of misery where a simple shower had such effects on him.

Once out of the shower he felt better. By the sun that had risen over Seoul's skyscrapers he estimated the time to be around midday, maybe early afternoon. He must have slept for long, he thought as he stared out the window. Since the apartment was situated on two sides of the building he had a different view from here than from the living room.

Not that it was a much better view. Not at all. He could see the destruction just like on the other side, could see the helicopters flying around, could see more zombies down there. Donghyuck gulped, hands already feeling clammy again. There were so many more zombies. The virus must have spread rapidly for all those new creatures to be shambled down there. They moved in groups, almost as if there was a little more in their brain than just the need to infect others. Maybe there was, Donghyuck had no idea. He surely never wanted to find out.

What attracted his attention were the blinking lights spread all over the city. Donghyuck wasn't sure whether it was the police or the ambulance but in the end it didn't matter. What mattered was that Seoul was in chaos. Donghyuck gnarled on his lower lip, staring down at the streets that usually would have been filled with crowds of young students, happy families and busy business people enjoying the good weather. It was almost summer and Donghyuck knew if it wasn't for well... the zombie apocalypse in the lack of another word, he too would have been roaming down there after class, copying his notes from Jeno like usually while the two made their way to their favourite cafe or to Jeno's dorm where Jaemin would have scolded them for dirtying the floor.

Donghyuck yearned for that, the normality that he only got to appreciate now that it was gone. He missed it, missed his friends and his dorm. He missed it all.

Only a soft knock on the door pulled him out of his trance and his head whipped around, Donghyuck's now fluffy brown hair forming a bang before his eyes which he swiftly pushed away once he saw the stranger exit.
