As I'm writing this, I haven't finished Gilmore Girls, so I don't know if any of the characters I mention do something that contradicts what I say. Also, spoiler warning for the show Gilmore Girls!
Ok, Rory in season one was the best. Rory season two was the best. It was in whatever season that they decided to give her flaws that it all went downhill.
What I don't get is why instead of highlighting her already present flaws, they (the show creators/writers) instead just gave her horrible flaws that were so horrible to get past. Like, for example, they could've highlighted her flaw of always having to be the best academically. They already were getting at it in the beginning, so I don't know why they couldn't have developed it even more. (Like, maybe she doesn't get into three universities-which I'm so confused about cuz she literally did not do any extracurriculars I swear but her grandparents are rich and Richard went to Yale so there's that)
When she kissed Jess and then went off to Europe, they even could've gone onto how she always avoids her problems. But no, they had to drag out the whole "Oh I'm with Dean but I want to be with Jess!" rodeo until her and Jess finally got together. Also, when Jess put Rory in her place after she came back from Europe and got all huffy puffy because he was with the blonde girl (I don't want to just call her that but I don't know what her name was tbh..) was what everyone was waiting for.
And then when she slept with Dean who was married, she tried acting as if she was innocent. Now, this isn't her fault completely and if anything it's Dean's responsibility and she herself shouldn't be in the wrong, but it was just weird how when she tried justifying herself, she threw Lindsey (Dean's wife) under the bus. Like no, he didn't sleep with you because of Lindsay, he slept with you because he sucks.
I feel like they tried to add flaws to a character that they were also trying to present as perfect. And what do you do when a perfect character messes up? Other characters come to their defence no matter what!
Hopefully, by the end Rory turns out better. I'm on the last season, and so far it looks like it's turning out better than I thought.
