Started her career at the age of 9 (2012-2012) in the West End production of Matilda as the title role, and her TV debut by starring in the MTV series Teen Wolf (2015-present)at 12 as Issac Lahey's (Daniel Sherman) little sister, Penelope "Penny" Lahey. Ironically, that same year she got her most recognized role in the Netflix series Stranger Things (2016-present) as Nicola "Nick" James but was released the following year.

She has grown up being in the spotlight as her mother is a famous pop star, Taylor Swift, her father movie star, Joe Alwyn. She also has a brother, Andrew Alwyn, best known for his roles in Ender's Game, The Boy In The Striped Pajamas, and Ms. Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children; and sister Victoria Alwyn, best known for her roles in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Fosse/Veron, and Seberg.
"Elle has always had a very vivid imagination," Her father states, "So when she told us she wanted to audition for the school play, I wasn't that surprised. When we finally got to see it I was very proud. She was wonderful," Alwyn said with a smile, "Then when she said she wanted to be like me. Acting. Seeing her sing on the West End Stage every few nights was the best thing ever. Especially the few performances where she had a missing tooth. It was the cutest thing ever. Then seeing her in Teen Wolf and Stranger Things was a big eye-opener for me. My youngest daughter, like the rest of her siblings, can act."

We didn't want her to have a crazy schedule unless she asked for it. She'll be honest with us and tell us when she feels like it's too much. She is currently working on a project other than Stranger Things and Teen Wolf," Swift teased, "Which we're so excited to see."
"We always have had that normal brother-sister bond. Making fun of each other, fighting, then acting like it never happened," Andrew said about his relationship with his younger sister, "She's amazing. Mum, signed us all up for piano lessons and she took it seriously. While Vic and I just messed around and now she can listen to any song and play it instantly, and I can't play shit."
Victoria recently said, "Honestly, Ellie's always been the most talented one in the family. She would get her dolls and she'd create stories in her head; like each doll had a role in her made-up film and it was all taking place in her head. I mean, I know some kids do that, I've come to learn. But she went as far as creating movie music, as she would like to call it, which was her way of saying a soundtrack."

Although she is known for her acting career, she has also expressed herself through music. Taylor said, "Yeah, she wanted to learn the piano so badly back when she was five. Joe agreed and started to show her and the kids. Then we got them (Victoria, Andrew, and Ellie) an instructor. She (Ellie) loved it. She plays all the time. Then on tours, she would ask Paul, my guitarist, to teach her guitar. Paul did teach her when he could, so did her co-star Tyler Posey, and she hasn't put it down since."
She is credited in Taylor Swift's newest anticipated album Lover out in August. "My daughter (Ellie) helped with some of the writing process, during her winter break from Teen Wolf. I was taken by surprise by how much of a good lyricist she is. Just the authenticity when it came to her writing with me in the room was pure raw emotion," Taylor said in New York Times interview.

She was born in London, England as Elliana Grace Alwyn. Although raised and born and raised in Primrose Hill Camden, a London borough in Inner London, she is half American on her mother's side and English on her father's side. Has an older brother and sister, who are also actors.
At the age of 9, she started acting in the West End production of Matilda in the title role, where she met long-time friend Charlotte Mitchell. This career endeavor was also when she chose to go by the stage name of Ellie Alwyn.
She appears in Me! music video with Taylor Swift and Brenden Urie. She plays one of their children along with the three family cats Meredith, Olivia, and Benjamin.
She currently has no official romantic partner but is rumored to have been dating Stranger Things co-star Finn Wolfhard since 2018.
