Sirius sat in the common room, lazily draped across an armchair, pretending to read. He was really watching Remus. Remus was sitting on the sofa closest to the fire, curled up with a giant leatherbound book in his lap. Even from across the room Sirius could see Remus's face clearly. He could see the warm light from the fire dancing across Remus's perfect skin. He could clearly see his bright amber eyes moving across the pages of his book, utterly absorbed. He could see his coffee freckles and moonlight scars. He watched as Remus smiled down at whatever he was reading, revealing those perfect teeth. He watched as Remus subconsciously licked his lips as he turned the page. He watched his golden eyebrows raise slightly as he read. He watched Remus's fingers unknowingly rub against the pages of his book. He watched Remus as he slightly readjusted his feet. He watched Remus smile again and move one hand to run his hand through his sandy curls. He watched as Remus replaced his hand back to holding the book. He watched Remus's sandy curls tumble in front of his face.

Merlin, how could anyone be any more perfect. Truly. Remus was the epitome of perfection and goodness in Sirius's eyes. Sirius was undoubtedly in love with Remus. He had been from the very beginning. He was in love with everything about him. From the way his voice sounded right after he had woken up, to the way he would slightly swerve when he was walking if he was tired. From the way he said spells, to the way he held his wand. From the way he could spend hours reading, to the way he held he would readjust his book bag on his shoulder that was quite literally bursting with books. From the way he was always smiling to himself, to the way he smelled.

Oh how Remus smelled. Chocolate and fresh parchment. Old books and milky tea. Vanilla and cinnamon. Forests and rain. Smoke and mossy grass. Toast and muffins. Thick jumpers and blankets. Fire and warmth.

Sirius sighed inwardly and rubbed his eyes. He couldn't be thinking about this. Although most people knew that Sirius was gay, Sirius knew that most certainly Remus was not. Sirius shook his head and tried to clear his mind. He didn't know how he could be so in love with someone who would never love him back. Well, not quite. Sirius knew that Remus loved him, just not in the way that he would've liked. Fed up with the situation once again, Sirius decided he needed some air. He swung his legs over to the ground and moved the book from his lap.

"You leaving?" Remus looked up from his book and caught Sirius's eye.

"Yeah, I just have some stuff to do," Sirius stated. He didn't mean to be cold to Remus, he just didn't know what else to do. Sirius didn't blame Remus for not liking him, but it still hurt.

"Okay," Remus said, "See you at dinner?"

Sirius nodded and made his way over to the portrait hole. After he had climbed through, he let out a breath he didn't know he had been holding. He made his way down the halls towards the doors.

Remus sat curled in the sofa, reading a book he had been meaning to read for a while. It was a muggle book about 2 people that were in love but thought that the other wasn't in love. Remus didn't usually read love stories, too cliche he thought, but someone had suggested this one to him. Who had that been? He tried to remember but no one seemed to come to mind. He shrugged it off, it didn't matter much anyway. He returned to the book and continued to read. It wasn't an awful book, definitely better than he had thought. It wasn't too cliche, but it definitely had its moments. As Remus continued to read, he couldn't help but get absorbed into it. It was very well written and, Remus sighed inwardly, it had a pretty good plot. Remus had been so absorbed, he only re-entered the world when he heard Sirius shift in his seat. Remus sighed quietly. This book was kind of like his life right now. Being in love with Sirius, but Sirius not knowing. He chuckled, too bad the only difference was that Sirius didn't love him back. He watched as Sirius moved the book from his lap. He frowned slightly, Remus didn't want him to leave.
