after a fight

It really wasn't that big of a fight. Yeah, they had argued a bit and it escalated, but what was so bad about that? Couples fight right? They had both said some mean things, but neither really meant it. That's what Remus thought at least when Sirius had grabbed his wand and walked out the door. Remus didn't stop him because he just thought he was going for a walk or something to clear his head. He was sure he was going to come back. It was just a little fight right? So as Remus lay on the couch waiting for him to come back, rubbing the heels of his hands over his eyes, he heard the clock chime. Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. 9 o'clock.

Had Sirius really been gone 2 hours already? Where had he been? He usually didn't walk around for more than an hour? Maybe he went to spend the night with their friends? That's it. He must have gone over to Lily's and Jame's flat. That made him mad. Was it really that bad of a fight that he went to stay at their house? Remus was ready to apologize to Sirius but decided against it now. No, it was now his fault for not coming back and working things out. He moved his hands away from his face and huffed as he sat up. Fine, he thought, I'll just spend the night by myself.

As he got ready for bed he couldn't help but glance at the door every few minutes. Had Remus really been that mean? He knew Sirius's history with his mother and usually tried to not yell but tonight Sirius was just being so, so Sirius. They had been arguing over how Remus left his things all around and it had escalated. 2 days ago had been a full moon and Remus still felt on edge. His joints were still aching and that anger the wolf had filled him with was still quite present. Sirius just kept pestering him and pestering him until he pushed him a little too far. Soon after that they were both yelling, and that was never good. Stress had been high lately and Remus and Sirius were both so hard-headed that their fights were never particularly pretty. But how had this fight been different? They had both yelled at each other, like they had done so many times before, but this time Sirius was staying with James and Lily.

Remus felt a sting of guilt. Although Sirius really did make him so angry, he loved him with his whole heart. Merlin, Remus would do anything for Sirius without a second thought. Ever since Hogwarts Remus had felt the need to protect that beautiful, black haired boy. He decided he would just send an owl to him. Just to make sure he was okay. He picked up a piece of parchment and a pen. He glanced at the clock. 9:43 pm. He frowned and looked down to the parchment.

Padfoot,
Hey. I just wanted to make sure you're okay. Please come back and we can talk or send me a note back and tell me when you think you'll be back. I'm sorry. I love you.
-Remus

Remus folded the parchment and addressed it to Sirius. He walked over to the window sill and stroked their owl. It really was a gorgeous creature with its coffee brown feathers and gleaming eyes. He tied the letter to its foot and sent it out the window to the Potter's place.

He didn't bother closing the window again. He decided he would smoke. Remus rarely smoked anymore but he did sometimes when he was stressed. He was stressed now. Sirius had always been quite unpredictable and he couldn't shake the awful feeling in the pit of his stomach. He summoned the cigarette box and carefully pulled one out. He put it between his lips and snapped his fingers, lighting it. He leaned out the window and watched the street below.

Taking occasional drags he focused on the passerby. There weren't too many people on the street as the sun had set long ago, but there were a few. As he watched, four young men clambered out of a pub. They all had their arms around each other, swaying as they stumbled down the street. One sang a song that was unrecognizable through his drunken, slurred words. Another sang along, to a completely different tempo and pitch. Another laughed uncontrollably at his two friends. The fourth just smiled widely and wobbled along. Remus smiled. He was reminded of his time at Hogwarts with Sirius, James, and Peter. That made him happy. In a significantly better mood, he stubbed out his cigarette and closed the window. He climbed into bed and pulled the covers over himself. He turned and faced towards where Sirius usually slept. He sighed and closed his eyes hoping that Sirius was safe.
