:: xv. | engagement party

The news have finally gotten out. Everyone now knew about Lucas and Peyton's engagement. But unlike everyone else, Ashely knew everything. She knew what happened between her brother and Peyton. She knew how royally Brooke screwed up and now Peyton.

With Chad, everything was still the same. Over the past couple of days, he's gotten more depressed. When he found out there was going to be an engagement party, he just went down a hole. Everyone was confused of his sudden cancellations, except Peyton. She knew what she did and she hasn't seen him since.

Ashely was over at the apartment. She decided she was gonna hang with her brother since they weren't going to the party. I mean, it made sense. Peyton screwed up and Chad isn't even friends with Lucas anymore. But to Chad, it didn't make any sense for ashely not go. Peyton was still her friend and Lucas— if she was just doing this to stay with Chad, that would be stupid and he knew that.

"I know you said you weren't going to go because of me — that's stupid. Peyton's your friend and Luke." He spoke from the kitchen, getting himself a drink while she laid on the couch on her phone.

Ashely sat up, "Peyton isn't my friend. She fucked my brother over and I do not stand for that. Not to mention, she cheated on Luke. She's a fucking hoe."

"Exactly." Chad made his way over to the living room and sat on the chair in front of the coffee table, "Luke is your friend. You should be there."

"If I'm going, you're going." She bargained.

"Fine." He rolled eyes. "What do you even where to an engagement party?"

Chad and Ashely just approached the door to the Scott residence. Ashely lightly knocked on it and both of them waited until someone answered. Just within a few moments, Nathan Scott opened the door. He dabbed Chad up and gave a quick hug to Ashely before letting them in.

Chad should've known Brooke was going to be there as well. I mean, they are best friends— Peyton and her. It was like tangoing with an angel and the devil, except there were no angels. All he shared was a slight nod and quick smiles as he walked through the entryway to the living room, meeting Haley in the kitchen. Ashely was mingling as one does at a party.

He just wanted this night to be over already. He was so happy he didn't see Peyton yet. He stayed in the kitchen minding his own business and that was until Brooke came over.

"Didn't except to see you here." She stood next to him.

"Why's that?" He took another sip of his wine.

"You and Luke aren't friends and I'm pretty sure you and Peyton are not on the same page yet." She said.

He nodded turning to her, "And neither are we." With that he left the burnett there, standing in the kitchen; sighing and remembering how hurt he still must be.

An hour later, dinner was called and everyone gathered at the table. Besides the drama, it was nice sort of. All their friends were there. Everyone seemed to be getting a long for the most part. Ashely was trying to keep her brother from doing something stupid.

On the other hand, Chad was drunk as ever. He wasn't drunk to the point where he was falling over everything but drunk enough where he could actually do something stupid. As everyone sat eating, drinking and talking — Chad lifted his glass and fork, then lightly hitting the glass with the fork as if he was about to make a toast.

He then stood up, holding his glass of wine in the air as he cleared his throat. "I like to make a toast." He paused, "To Peyton and Lucas. You know, everyone always knew. Soulmates, you guys were just perfect for each other. You got each other like no one else did and that's amazing." His words slurred as he spoke. "It's like that moment when you have your first love and you see them. You look into their eyes and you realize how perfect they are, because you see them through your lenses. All you wanna do is protect them." Chad chuckled lightly, "Yeah well, to Peyton and Lucas!"

"Peyton and Lucas!" Everyone raised their glass as they all clinked with one another's.

Ashely soon realized her brother was drunk and so she offered to take him home but he refused, so she walked him upstairs to a bedroom to sleep it off. As he attempted to fall asleep, someone walked in turning the lights on. He quickly sat up and soon realized it was one of the James sisters.

"Taylor?" He shielded his eyes from the blaring lights. He quickly got up, "I can go."

"You're fine. I was just going to call it a night." She began to take her shirt off after closing the door.

Chad cleared his throat, "I'm just going to go."

Taylor moved in front of him, "I want you to stay." And with that, she turned off the lights. Chad was a bit hesitant at first but he soon realized there was no point in caring about other's feelings cause no one seems to care about his.

And so he pressed his lips onto Taylor's. Taylor kissed back, each kiss getting deeper and deeper. They soon migrated to the bed. Chad taking off his shirt as Taylor quickly pulled off her pants. He was now on top of her. She moaned as he started to kiss her neck.

And so Chad spent his night in Taylor's bed. He didn't regret it. The first time in a long time, he felt free . . . from everything. From drama, life, his complicated love life. Maybe casual sex was all he needed right now.
