Thrawn had no clue where Ezra was.
This wasn't the first time the Jedi had stood up and just left without a word. Thrawn often noticed that Ezra's eyes were shining with tears when he began walking away, so he assumed that Bridger just needed some alone time.
However, it had been much, much longer than usual. Ezra had been gone for almost seven hours, whereas he was usually away for only thirty or forty minutes. Thrawn, though he hated to admit it, began to worry.
Was the Jedi sick? Bleeding? Dead? The Chiss shook himself mentally. 'He's fine, he's just off exploring somewhere.'
But he couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. After a few more minutes, he stood up and began to hunt for Bridger.
"Bridger!" Thrawn called. No response.
"Ezra!" he yelled out. No response. Something was wrong.
As Thrawn came to a river, he found something.
Ezra.
Unconscious at the bottom of the river.
Without a second thought, Thrawn dove down to save the Jedi. He grabbed Ezra by the wrist and yanked him up to the surface.
"Don't you dare die on me, Bridger," Thrawn threatened as he began CPR. Ezra remained unmoving.
Thrawn continued his motions, worry growing up in his chest. Suddenly Ezra jerked, coughed, and vomited onto the ground. He then rolled back onto his back to face Thrawn.
"What happened?" he asked, his voice scratchy. Exhaustion was clear in his voice and he began to shiver.
Thrawn sighed with relief. "You nearly drowned. Come Bridger, we should go back to camp."
Ezra stumbled alongside Thrawn, who eventually gripped the Jedi's arm to stabilize him.
Back at their shelter, another shiver quaked Ezra's body as he sat down next to the fire. Thrawn draped the emergency blanket over him, but Ezra still trembled.
Thrawn frowned. It wasn't that cold. Then he realized: it was probably the time spent underwater. He threw more sticks on the fire, trying to keep it up.
As Ezra finally fell asleep, Thrawn sighed,
"What am I going to do with you?"
