The story is set in Assam, a state in India, so here's the glossary explaining some of the terms that might be new to you.

Aita : grandma
Ba : honorific, for older sister
Bihu : the major harvest festival in Assam. There are 3 different kinds of Bihu celebrated throughout a year. They mostly involve community feasts and cultural events.
Bor-deuta : uncle; father's older brother
Bor-ma : aunt; wife of one's father's older brother
Da : honorific, for older brother
Deha : term of endearment, like "my love"
Deuta : father
Dhaba : roadside restaurant
Dhool : a type of double-barreled drum native to Assam. It's a musical instrument that is essential to bihu songs.
Dhuti : garment traditionally worn by men; a piece of cloth wrapped around the legs
Gamocha : piece of cloth (of sorts? lol this is difficult to explain, go Google it!), indigenous to Assam and held in the highest esteem
Gogona : a type of reed instrument
Guwahati : largest city in Assam, also houses the state capital
Japi : traditional hat made of bamboo/cane
Jetuka : dye made from powdered leaves
Jolpan : a type of breakfast cuisine
Khura : uncle; father's younger brother
Koka : grandpa
Mama : uncle, mother's brother
Mekhela Sador : a two-piece attire typical of Assam, traditionally worn by women
Muga : a type of silk
Pepa : hornpipe musical instrument
Pitha : refers to a wide range of snacks, generally prepared for special occasions like bihu
Polo : a fishing equipment
Taoi : uncle; father's best friend
Toka : a musical instrument made of bamboo
Xutuli : a type of musical instrument
