Annabeth Chase and Percy Jackson's relationship has always been simple. It has always been like that since they met in middle school after Percy accidentally knocked a stack of books onto the ground in the library, and Annabeth helped him clean it up. That day was what blossomed the next three happiest years of their youth and forward.
It took some time, but they told each other everything, from how their day was to confessing their family issues. They told secrets, knowing the other would keep it to the grave, and they would encourage each other's dreams. They would be there for each other when no one else was and would listen to each other; Percy nodded whenever Annabeth talked about architecture while she listened to him ramble about ocean life.
Their relationship was unique and one of a kind; many people would die to experience the pure bliss that two felt every time they saw each other. It was something you couldn't replace—Something you wouldn't want to lose. They loved each other platonically, and it's been that way ever since they connected.
However, when freshman year came, it wasn't what either of them had expected when they walked inside, hand and hand, into Goode High School. Because everything they knew had changed.
Looks and personalities were altered to fit in the crowd. Friend groups changed as people drifted apart and went in different directions. Good or bad. Either way, people change, bridges burn, and no one ever learns.
Yet Annabeth Chase and Percy Jackson promised each other underneath the cherry blossom trees the summer before that they will never change and their friendship will last forever.
