Harry’s POV
“Where we first met.”
“My house?! Bay, that doesn’t make sense.” She couldn’t be at my house, they took her. They would never let her be there.
“Bye.”
“Bay, wait!!” But it was too late, the monotonal hum returning to the other side of the phone. “Shit!”
“Harry, what did she say? She’s at your house?” James asks from next to me on his “friend’s” couch.
“She said that she’s where we first met, and that’s where we met. But there’s no way she could be there, right?”
Wait.
There are two places she could be: New York or New Orleans. We definitely never met in New York but there was that picture of her in New Orleans….
“James, we need to go, now. Grandfather, how soon can we get to New Orleans?”
He looks at me before pulling out his phone and dialing a number, saying a few quick things and then hanging up.
“About two hours if we leave right now and make the pilot rush, which we can. Why? What’s going on?”
I take a deep sigh before explaining.
“When she was moving into my place, we were packing up all of the things at her house, including her pictures. And we found a picture of her in New Orleans, with me in the background. She just told me that she’s where we first met, and if that’s not my house then it must be New Orleans.”
“Okay, well it’s worth a shot, let’s get going.”
We quickly pack up all of our stuff, and start to leave but not before saying bye to Liz.
“Thank you, Liz. For everything.” James says, and I know he means more than just a place to stay.
“Anytime babe. And you’re welcome back anytime. You all are.”
I swear if I wasn’t in love with Bay and if I’d never met her, I may have taken up that offer right then and there.
What can I say? I’m a guy, I have needs.
And hopefully Bay can fulfill those needs one day.
“We’ll pass.” Grandfather is obviously uninterested and I’m not sure how. Maybe he’s just gotten really good at his poker face.
“Alright, fair enough. But if you need anything else, I’m only a phone call away. I have some connections in New Orleans if any trouble comes up.”
“Good, we may need it. Let’s go.” I push my bag a little further up my shoulder and exit the apartment, making my way back out to the car with Grandfather and James behind me.
This is going to be interesting.
****
A while later, we’re driving through New Orleans, on our way to the river where the headquarters is located. The air here is a little too humid for my liking but the heat is equally satisfying. I’m not a fan of cold weather.
Everyone here is always so flamboyant and happy, and I wonder what they would think if they knew someone like me existed. A complete monster that could kill them with a single punch.
If they did, they’d probably be afraid and wouldn’t be running around with their jester cups and ‘BIG EASY’ t-shirts.
I still find it astounding and confusing, the fact that Bay doesn’t seem to be afraid of me. She knows what I am, yet she was willing to live with me. Even more, she was willing to sleep in the same bed with me. When I could have killed her easily.
