Sawyer couldn't seem to get the image of the strange kid's grin out of her head...
It had been engraved into her memory. In vivid detail. The way he smiled after being hit so violently... the blood. Sawyer shuttered. How could he smile like that? It was so cryptic, so eerie.
Just the memory alone was enough to send the hairs on the back of her neck rising all over again. How could he smile like that? Was he looking for a fight? Sawyer scoured her mind for answers, but she couldn't think of any logical reason a random kid would not only intervene in such a way but egg the group on purposely the way he did.
He had to have known it would end that way. He had to have...
As though his grin itself wasn't chilling enough, something about the additional blood running down his chin made it even more... twisted.
He just... smiled!
WHILE HE WAS BLEEDING!
"Strange..."Sawyer murmured beneath her breath without even realizing it. Everything about that boy seemed strange to her. So strange that she knew she had to stay away—far away.
Sawyer shook the thought away.
How could she judge him after just one meeting? It was impossible.
Admittedly the circumstances weren't the best, but how could she blame him for that? After all, it wasn't his fault. He was the only one that stepped in. He was just trying to help. Right?
Sawyersighed heavily as she continued down her familiar neighborhood. She gazed up once she began approaching her home and instantly, she spotted a familiar olive-green jeep parked in the driveway.
Sawyer froze. Part of her couldn't believe what she was seeing.
Without hesitation, Sawyer charged for her house. Her lips curled into the widest grin, and tears threatened her eyes.
Ritchie's back!
Sawyer's face visibly lit up like a Christmas tree.
HE'S BACK!
She burst through the front door and kicked her shoes off without thought—the action practically programmed into her mind by her mother since she was a little girl. Quickly, Sawyer ran for the kitchen where she could faintly hear the sound of voices.
Of course he would be in the kitchen. Ritchie always did have a large appetite.
Growing up, Sawyer used to fear he'd eat the entire kitchen if he got hungry enough. His stomach was practically like a black hole.
