I stepped out into the fresh air. The sunniest day we've had all year, yet everyone was gloomy. The Husband Games was on. Every un-married girl would fight to the death for 1 boy. Usually, it was one. But this year was the 60th. Every 10, they put 5 boys to fight for. The boys then choose their girl.
The town was silent as we all walked to the ball of names. They had 5 boys already. 30 girls are being put in. Theres going to be a very long reaping this year.
"Kate Smith," Lottie Clancy, the president, called out, reading the card in her pale hand. We all looked at Kate. She burst into tears. Lottie put her hand into the ball again.
"Sarah Clancy," she whispered, in tears herself. Her own daughter was in the running. She might die. The pale, wrinkled hand goes in again.
"Joanna Murphy," Lottie smirked. The Town Troublemaker. Nobody liked her. Many whispers were heard in the audience. "Calm down now, please."
"Bella Davis," she called. Bella Davis? Who was she?
25 more names were called. All the girls names you could ever think of. That was when a name snapped me out of my thoughts.
"Alison Brown," Lottie read. My name? I got the final place in the Husband Games? I had a place in the Husband Games? I had to fight for somene I didn't even know to be my husband? And maybe die?
"All girls, please come up," she called, reading out the 30 names, sniffing when seeing Sarah.
We slowly and silenty walked up the path people made. I held in my tears and sadness. I was going to come back a winner. I put my back against the wall, hurting my spine. Nothing mattered anyway. I would probably die anyway.
"Girls, you may proceed inside and get ready for the questions with Carl Mason," Lottie fake smiled. Her eyes said it all. She wanted to do everything to protect her daugter. Rules are rules, even the president's daughter will have to go fight.
Each girl was assigned one stylist. Sarah got the worst one, which was a small bit crazy. I got the one who was the quietist, probably spent a lot of time designing. I couldn't wait to see the designs.
"Hello!" a girl named Eleanor smiled. "I'm Eleanor and you are very beautiful,"
"Thank you Eleanor! Well, I'm Alison and I love your hair," I replied.
"Your hair. It's perfect for the outfit I've designed. Come with me, quickly!" she hurried.
We went into a spacious room. It was modern, black and white walls and red couches. I realized I would be spending about 10 weeks in here for training.
I noticed a big gold wall, with writing all over it. I hurried over to see names. There were Lauras, Pollys, Monikas, Sarahs, Victorias and so much more. I finally got to the end of the list. My finger went down until I saw the letter A. I read it. It read;
'Alison Brown, Sellet, Bonming."
