George was scrolling mindlessly through twitter until he saw a blue small car pull slowly in the driveway of his unkept, small house. clunk clunk clunk. George sighed as he knew who it possibly was. House keys moved around while the person outside was attempting to come in. George turned off his phone and started to speed walk upstairs. He could tell his father was mad due to the many tries to get the keys into the key slot.
"GEORGE GET DOWN HERE." His fathers booming voice could practically be heard from down the street.
George slowly made his way back down stairs bracing himself for the worst of it. His footsteps were very light against the off-white color of the carpet. He wanted to be as quiet and as careful as possible, random trinkets filled the hallways and were spilling down the stairs. Who knows what would happen if something fell.
"y-yes?" he spoke quietly.
"y-y-y-y-yes? listen to me, when you speak you don't. stutter! DO YOU HEAR ME?!! your weak." George stood there unknowing of what to do as a big dirt covered fist was held just inches in front of his face. He should have remembered not to should any signs of weakness. it's was his fault that he gets yelled at.
"your going to bed hungry!" a finger flew straight through the air twards the stairs.
George slowly walked upstairs. Even if it was such a quick "conversation" it felt like he had been there forever.
Nothing much happened after that. George had always kept a hidden stash of food in his closet for nights like this. Yeah the food wasn't the greatest but it was good enough.
After the quick granola bar and half his water bottle from school, he was off to go take a shower. He turned the water more hot then cold. The feeling of the hot water calmed him. After hard days this was the only thing he ever looked forward to. He felt as if his world was fixed, that might be a bit of an exaggeration but it was kinda true. It had felt like his mother was just downstairs preparing dinner while watching the news. It felt like he could walk downstairs without the feeling of getting yelled at or gaining another bruise.
Not long after he had finished washing out his conditioner he had zoned out again. He had been in the shower for almost 30 minutes. Even if some people would consider that a short shower, his father despise when George took a shower longer that 10 minutes. Apparently they were tight on money. Maybe they could afford good food if his dad didn't push money down the drain at the casino.
Who cares though, it wasn't George's problem. But it made his dad not trust him because he thought that George was wasting all the money.
