It was late afternoon, and Ash was waiting in the clearing that he and the other kids had hiked to. There was a large spaced out circle of five large cabins in the middle of the clearing.

Professor Oak had gone to find the know-it-all boy and the maroon-haired girl, whom Ash had later found out were named Goh and Chloe. A few minutes later, Professor Oak walked through the trees with said duo.

"There you are!" Professor Sycamore said. He and the other Professors all went over to talk to Professor Oak, while Goh and Chloe walked away from them, and over towards the group of kids.

Goh walked towards Ash, Chloe following. "Hi there! I'm Goh!" Goh introduced himself. Ash nodded hesitantly. "I'm Ash." he replied. They shook hands. "That's my friend Chloe." Goh said, gesturing to Chloe. "Nice to meet you." she said.

"I'm from Vermilion City. What about you?" Goh asked. That triggered a distant memory.

"Where should we go? Ohh what about Cerulean City? Or maybe Pewter City? So many choices!" Mew said. They were planning to visit somewhere in Kanto and were trying to decide where to go first. They had already visited the other regions. "Ooh, ooh what about Pallet Town? It's a quiet place near a forest with a bunch of Pokemon. You'd love it there!" Mew exclaimed. "Ok then, Pallet Town it is."

"I come from...Pallet Town." Ash replied.

"Alright everyone! It's time to get sorted into your cabins!" Professor Birch said. All the kids got sorted into one of the five cabins: Charmander Cabin, Bulbasaur Cabin, Squirtle Cabin, Eevee Cabin, and Pikachu Cabin. Ash was in the Pikachu Cabin with Goh, while Chloe got sorted into the Eevee Cabin. There were nine kids in each cabin, and five bunk beds.  Ash picked the top bunk of the last unoccupied bed. Since there were only nine kids, he would have the bunk all to himself.

Ash decided to unpack his bag after the other kids left the cabin. Little did he know, Goh was still inside, and he didn't notice Goh unpacking on the bottom bunk of the bed next to his. He opened his bag and let Spark out. "Finally!" the Pichu exclaimed. Ash laughed. Goh's eyes widened when he saw the Pichu. 'That's a Shiny Pichu! What is it wearing?' Goh thought, staring at the Pichu and his bandana. Ash gave Spark some berries. Just then, Mew appeared in front of him.

'Mew! It's back again!' Goh thought. He really wanted to shout but decided to keep quiet. "Nana Mew! I saw you earlier. I thought you were supposed to be watching me, not battling a Nidoking!" Ash said accusingly. "Sorry. It was a last minute battle." Mew replied. "But you were seen! Mom said not to rouse suspicion. You were doing just that!" Ash exclaimed. "No one can connect me with you, so it's fine." Mew soothed. "Anywho, you should get going. Everyone's already done unpacking." she added. Ash sighed. "Fine. But just promise you'll be more careful, Nana Mew." Ash replied. "Promise!" Mew exclaimed, before disappearing. Ash sighed once more before looking to Spark. *I'll make you invisible so you can run around outside.* Ash said. *Ooh, okay!* Spark replied. Ash used his aura to make Spark invisible. "Now, let's go." Ash said, leaving the cabin with Spark following.

After they left, Goh thought about what Ash had said. 'Why did Ash call Mew 'Nana Mew'? They seemed to know each other. But how? And how was he talking to it? He acted like he understood it. And what did he mean by 'Mom said not to rouse suspicion'? And how did he find and befriend a Shiny Pichu?' These questions flew around Goh's mind, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't think of an answer to any of them, which only frustrated him. 'That boy is really strange. I should keep an eye on him. Maybe if I get close enough to him, he'll even introduce me to Mew!' Goh thought excitedly.

"Boys and girls, it's time for you to go explore on your own. Observe the pokemon in their natural habitat! Just make sure to be back before it gets dark." Goh heard Professor Oak's voice from outside. 'Oh no! I'm late!' Goh hurriedly unpacked the rest of his stuff before heading outside. He joined the group of kids unnoticed, just before they all split up and headed into the forest.
