Two days later came school.
Chrys and I walked down the hall. After avoiding a couple smashing their faces against each other to the right and a kid skateboarding on the left and the various people everywhere, we made it to our lockers without losing a finger or two.
I did the lock for my locker and opened it, nearly missing a paper airplane flying through the air.
"Hey Chrys." I heard as I slammed my locker shut.
I looked to my left as Brett Hodge leaned against the locker next to Chrys. She frowned. I laughed on the inside as I leaned my back against my locker door with my books in my hands.
Brett was a swimmer. He was tall with musclar arms and legs. When you watched Brett it was as if he was a knife and he sliced through the water. I used to be on the swim team but no where near as good as Brett. Not only did that gain him a lot of girls but he also had big brown puppy dog eyes that girls melted into. He was naturally tan and had curly hair. Brett's only flaw was that he smokes, and even some girls like that. Chrys? She hated it and that's what he fell in love with.
He has been after Chrys since we first started highschool but she keep saying she won't go on a date with him untill he puts down the cigarette. But he refused and so does she.
"So Chrys me, you saturday night. Skating rink. What about it?" He asked smiling that huge smile.
She rolled her eyes and leaned in close to him.
"No" She whispered and you could practically see him falling even more in love with her. He laughed and pouted.
"But-" And we didn't get to hear what he said next cause one of his other friends called him after. "See ya later babe." He said to Chrys then looked at me. "Bye Eve." He smiled at me then walked off. I'm pretty sure he was only friendly with me cause he liked Chrys so much.
"I hate him." Chrys said before shutting her locker door while smiling a little.
I laughed and rolled my eyes. We walked down the hall to the one class we shared together, spanish. The teacher was out of the room and we could only assume we had a sub. I walked to the second to last desk at the back and sat down while Chrys sat next to me. Other students filed in.
"Evelyn!" I heard and I looked towards the door.
Monty Johnson was there and I think everyone looked at her the same way, with narrowing eyes and frowns. She was the school gossiper. Nothing could get by her. From her curly red hair and beady eyes to her favorite black hightops she always wore, Chrys and I despised her.
"Monty." I said back with about as much fake enthusiasm.
She smiled and sat down in front of me before turning around.
"So... I saw Peter today and aprarently he moved back. Did you know that?" She smiled like a hyena.
I could feel my body tighten with unease.
"Yes I knew it."
Before Peter, I just wanted to get through high school noticed and remembered by few. But when we first started dating, I figured out quickly that that was not how it was going to go. I became an interesting table talk, and I hated it. When he moved away I was forgotten again. People just knew my name and face, they didn't know me.
"Oh did you guys talk?" Monty asked.
I decided to lie, "No. We don't talk anymore."
"Aw so you guys aren't getting back together?"
"No."
"Are you friends?"
I didn't really know how to answer that. "No..."
