i drummed my fingers against the steering wheel of my tired old volkswagen bug. dark trees surrounded my windows, but i tried not to pay attention to anything. it had been two days since i left town. i just got up from my house, and left. no warning.
nothing.
endless calls had passed across the screen of my phone, but i dismissed them all. i didn't have any family, i never had any. my friends could do without me for a bit.
i didn't know where i was going.
i just drove.
a song came on the busted radio, and i sang along to it, my voice cracking in all the wrong places. it was getting dark in the forest surrounding me.
i liked it here, deep in the woods.
it felt nice to be alone.
i stopped the car in a small store parking lot for the night. it was a sleepy town in...oregon. i think. i pulled a blanket out from under the backseat, and draped it over my body.
i didn't really know why i left. i just needed the change. i had grabbed enough money for me to get by with for a while, so i would be okay. i felt bad for my friends, but then again, i hadn't seen them or, rather, cared where they were in a while. it was better this way.
it's not like this was impulse, no i had been planning this for a while, it just never seemed like the right time until two days ago.
oh well.
i was free.
