Andrea

I was back in New York after nearly two months and hadn't expected so many things would happen while I was away.  I had returned last night and now was sitting in the living room with my Mom and sister Olivia.

The first thing that I got to know was that my best friend had broken up with his boyfriend of six years. Their relationship had been going so well until the asshole cheated on her.

The second thing was my elder and only sister was getting engaged to a businessman from Boston. He was also rumored to be involved with the mafia but nothing had been proven against him as there was no evidence.

"Why would you marry a man rumored to be a mafia?" I asked Olivia in astonishment.

"Rea, it's all rubbish. Cian isn't a mafia and even if he is, Dad wants me to get married to him," she replied, placing her feet on the coffee table in the living room.

"Mom, how could Dad make her marry a man like Cian?"

I called out to Mom who was busy giving a dressing down to a maid who had broken her favorite China vase while dusting.

"Olivia, will you explain it to her? I am a little busy here," Mom gave me a disapproving look and then instructed Olivia.

Everything was going fine till I had left. Olivia had just completed her MBA and was going to join Dad's company. Now she was looking happy getting engaged and then married to someone she didn't even know.

"You should meet Cian, he is so hot. I had never met some as intense and intimidating as him," Olivia said in a hushed voice.

I glared at my sister, was she just going to marry him because of his good looks?

"Are you serious? What about compatibility?"

"People develop an understanding after getting married. Look at our parents, how good arrange marriage turned out for them," Olivia said in a gentle tone, trying to explain her point.

"You don't love him," I said aghast.

"She has got her whole life to fall in life with him," Mom snapped from where she was standing with the maid Martha.

I can't believe this, my parents were pushing my sister into a loveless marriage and she was accepting it gladly just because the said person was hot.

Unbelievable.

If I would have known something like this would happen in my absence I would never have left. Now Olivia was completely under my parent's influence. She always had been a good girl, but this was too much even to her standards.

"Do you both have anything in common?" I asked.

"Andrea Petrakis, if you don't shut up right at this moment, you will be the one responsible for the consequences," Mom said in her no-nonsense tone while glaring at me with her eyes filled with anger.

"Mom, I was just asking," I mumbled but another glare from her made me shut up.

Mom was a catholic and had been raised in a traditional family. She had studied from a convent school and her family worked with a church very closely. She still went to church every Sunday along with our father and Olivia and I had to go with her at all costs.

Though Dad gave us freedom in our life and we were allowed to go out with boys, Mom never approved of it. If she found out I had lost my virginity to a man I had met only for a few hours, she might get a stroke. I was sure Olivia was not a virgin either, because she had a few boyfriends in her college years as during MBA.
