6 - Lives On The Line

I make no hesitation to grab Simon's hand and make a run for it. Josh grabs Kate, dropping most of the snacks behind him. "Oh my god!!" Kate exclaims. "FUCKING RUN!!!" I order, pushing the door open. We get to the exit and stop. "Where are the keys? Do you have the keys?" Simon urgently asks Josh. "No!" Josh yells. "Where... Where are the keys?" Simon pants.

"Come on... The ambulance," Kate suddenly says. "What?!" I protest, but Simon grabs my hand and follows Kate out the door. "Windows!" Kate orders. Simon punches at the ambulance window, but ends up holding his fist in pain. "THE BACK DOORS!" I yell as if I'm surrounded by idiots.

Josh swings open the back doors and climbs inside the ambulance. "Who's driving?" Simon quickly asks. "Me," I say, sitting down in the driver's seat. "Look around for the keys!" I order everyone.
"I got them!" Josh says, tossing them into my hands. I stick the key inside the ignition and turn it sideways, allowing the rewarding sound of the car starting. "Where's Deena and Sam?! We're not leaving without them!" I demand as I shift the gear out of park and drive the ambulance to the front exit.

"COME ON!!" Simon peeks out of the back doors and yells. "HURRY, DEENA!!" Josh adds. "LET'S GO!!! COME ON!!!" They yell together. Deena and Sam finally climb into the ambulance. "GO, GO, GO!!!" Sam screams. I step on the gas pedal and drive out of the hospital.

"What are we gonna do?!" Sam cries. "I saw who it was!" Deena announces. "Who?" Everyone asks. "The killer is Ryan Torres," she gravely says. "But... he died. The police shot him down," I say, searching for any logical explanation. Deena persists, "I don't know how, but I saw his face!"

"Alright, we know the killer is a zombie, but what are we gonna tell the police?" Simon questions, still shaken up. "We'll tell them that it was Ryan Torres," Deena says. "They're not gonna believe us!" Sam says, placing her head in her hands. "There's still a bunch of dead people at the hospital whether they believe us on who it is or not!" I add, turning the ambulance around the corner.

"Don't park directly at the police station! This is a stolen ambulance!" Kate pipes up. "I know," I sigh, my vision blurring with tears. I rub my eyes free of them and park at a nearby building far out of the police station's sight.

Deena and Sam climb out of the vehicle while the rest of us stay to guard it. They walk to the police station together.

"What'll happen if they don't believe us?" I worry, stepping outside of the ambulance. "Then we... We..." Kate says, but can't seem to come up with a good solution. "We hide out here," she finally adds. "We shouldn't be this close to a police station with a stolen ambulance!" Simon frets. "That's the point. We're hiding in plain sight," Kate says. "Yeah, just like Bundy," Josh chimes in.

Simon and Kate both look at him with confusion. I swear, they share the same braincell. "Ted Bundy," I tell them in a "duh" tone. "Okay, didn't he get caught, though?" Kate questions. "Well, no... Well, yeah, but-" Josh stammers.

"You guys go figure this out I'm gonna go take a leak!" Simon interrupts, walking away from us. "Are you stupid?! Horror movies 101; never go alone!" I exclaim. "Then fucking come with me! I gotta go!" Simon says, continuing to jog away. I roll my eyes and follow after him, leaving Josh and Kate alone together.

"You have to do your business away from the police station. They'll charge you with vandalism and public urination," I say as I catch up to Simon.

"Well the cops can suck my dick. I'll piss where I please."
