When Sam woke up, he had no idea what time it was. He rubbed his eyes and grabbed his phone. 11:00?! Thank god it was the weekend. Then everything hit him. Cas being drunk. Dean admitting he and Cas kissed. Sending Dean off. Receiving that chilling phone call. Rushing over. Finding his brother on the ground, unable to make himself move. The dull and emotionless face of his brother staring back at him.

He groaned and pushed himself up. He must've fallen asleep before Benny got back. He trudged out of his room. He found Benny munching on some bacon and eggs at the breakfast table.

"Any news?"

"Yeah, we need to talk. Let's get you some coffee first."

"Yes please."

Benny quickly finished eating and went to see if Dean wanted breakfast.

Dean mumbled something that sounded like 'not hungry' before rolling over in bed. Benny sighed and let him be.

When he returned to the kitchen, Sam was much more alert.

"Man Dean and Cas are in some messed up shit."

"That bad?" Sam asked.

"I don't even know. It was all a misunderstanding."

Sam nearly spit out his eggs, "what?! A misunderstanding?! How could-"

"Easy," Benny said gently, "let me explain."

Sam, of course, knew half of the story already, so Benny filled him in on Cas's perspective and told him how their conversation went.

"An' he wants to talk to Dean. Apologize."

"Will that even help? I mean, you saw what Dean was like."

"It'll definitely hurt him, but I think it'll be worse not knowing."

Sam nodded in agreement, "so how are we-"

Suddenly Dean walked in. They both turned to stare at him, but Dean didn't acknowledge either of them. He kept walking through the kitchen to the bathroom.

"He didn't look too bad, right?" Benny whispered to Sam.

He whispered back, "that remains to be seen."

When Dean came back, Sam offered him breakfast.

"No thanks Sammy," he had replied with a broken smile.

The next day was the same. Dean stayed in bed for most of the day. He did manage to eat a little, which Sam tried to take as a positive that he was eating at all. He didn't talk much, but he also didn't try to get high or,  much to Sam's surprise, drunk. Benny stayed with the boys and slept on the pull-out couch. Sam and Benny had an unspoken rule of sorts that while one of them was out, the other stayed and watched Dean.

Monday morning Sam was chilling in the kitchen when Dean walked in wearing his work clothes. It shocked Sam because Dean hadn't changed his clothes the past two days.

"Morning, Dean."

Dean grunted in response as he poured himself some coffee.

"You uh, going anywhere?"

Dean responded like that was the dumbest question Sam had ever asked. "Yeah. Work."

"You sure... I mean Bobby would understand..."

"Sam I'm fine, I don't need a day off."

"I'm just saying you don't have to if you need some time to-"

"To do what, Sam?" Dean stood up, "What I need is to get out of this house."

"Alright," Sam put his hands up in defeat, "as long as you're good."

"Yeah, I'm fine. Still sober and I haven't had any opportunity to sneak off or something with you and Benny watching me all the time."

"Well, we-"

"Stop it Sam. I'm not dumb. It's fine," he chugged down the rest of his coffee, "I'm gonna be late."

With that Dean left. Sam stayed in his seat until the sound of the Impala faded away.

Benny stood in the doorway, "you good?"

"He did seem better."

"Was talking 'bout you, Sam."

"Yes, I-" he sighed, "I don't think he'll do anything drastic, but I can't stop worrying."

Benny nodded.

It was true. The next few days were fine. Dean got up. Went to work. Came home sober.

But he was unusually quiet, not talking to anyone. This was because his thoughts were racing inside his head.

He was particularly stuck in his head on his way to work on Friday. Sam had taken the impala to Eileen's so he was walking there. Suddenly there was a hand on his shoulder. He flinched back and prepared to punch whoever it was. But the other guy was quicker.
