A taste of freedom

Chapter 4

'Chores suck!' I thought. I was about 30ft away from Emma and Norman listening in on there conversation. "I think we should start playing tag in teams" Norman said "well if we do that I think we should tell Don and Gilda." Emma said "I also have an idea on how we can take everyone" she continued. "Emma don't you remember how you took the news?!" I whisper yelled at her when I walked passed them. "You were listening?!" She whispered back "well no duh, you never know whose listening." I said "oh that reminds me, I have reason to believe that there's a traitor among the children." I told them "and I can tell you who I think it is later if you want to know" I said walking away.

Getting down on my knees I started to wash the clothes. "So Ray, what do you think about playing tag in teams from now on?" I asked him "teams?" "Yeah you know, to practice for the escape" I said "oh well in theory that sounds like a good idea." He said "oh and I started reading this book it's called 'The Fault In Our Stars' it's a really good book and I wanted to know if you'd read it." I said looking up at him, he looked a little confused until I mouthed the word 'Mama'. "Yeah I've read it" he answered "whaa, since when did you read that kind of stuff?!" I shouted standing up. " I dunno" he said, then I noticed that me hands were dripping wet so you know what i did, I flicked the water at him.

"Now you've done it" he said standing up with a scary look. He started flicking water at me non stop, looking around I saw a bucket, you know the kind with water in it. So a ran to get it with him chasing me. 'Got it!' I thought grabbing it spinning around and dumping it on him. "Ahhhh! Cold!" He yelled "that's my cue!" I yelled running away from him.

Time skip

'Ok tracker goes in a tree and I go somewhere else' I thought dropping my tracker in a tree then running somewhere else to meet up with the other three. "So we need to check Carol then" I heard Emma say "Boo!" I yelled jumping down from a tree. They only flinched this time though. "Guys we should go back we've been gone to long I said after about ten minutes.

When we got back sister Krone said we should all play tag with her as it. "I'll beat you this time you little brat" she said to me "yeah, yeah" I said running into the forest. 'Hmm let's see where is the best place to hide first?' I thought 'oh how about in a normal tree where she can see me!' I thought. Why not make this fun. Just about two minutes after I had chosen a tree I heard Krone's footsteps. "Ah, there you are!" She said running full speed at me. I simply jumped to another tree as she destroyed the one I was on.

"Damn you" she grumbled after doing the same thing about five times. "You could try climbing, you know" I said crossing my arms and looking at my nails. She just tch' and ran off, 'whatever she can't catch me anyways' I thought. Bored out of my mind I put my hands behind my head and started whistling the sound of the mockingjay, from the book 'The Hunger Games' my favorite book of all times. About fifteen minutes later I saw her zoom past me chasing Norman and Ray. So I decided to follow them.

She chased them everywhere until they split up with her ultimately chasing Norman. When she lost sight of him I got up on a rock near her and where Norman would end up being. "They truly are elite" she mumbled to herself right before Ray came up behind her. "Times up"

"Yay!" All the kids shouted when the three of us came back victorious. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Krone whisper something to Gilda. "We have to be carful you never know who the enemy is" I heard Norman whisper to Emma and Ray. 'Wow, Norman, you still suspects me a lot' I thought to myself knowing that a majority of that sentence was sent towards me and Ray.

Time skip

"Hey Carol, how's it going?" I asked her even though she couldn't answer. I don't need to check for the tracker either, since I already know where it is. I heard Emma and Gilda talking beside me in the background. "You know, you could be Emma's sister. I have a sister too" when she heard Emma's name she smiled and started laughing. 'I wonder if I acted this way when I heard Lily's name back then, too' I questioned myself. "Since when do you have a sister?" Gilda asked me walking up to stand beside me with Emma who was also curious. "Since two days ago" I said "who?!" Emma shouted making Carol cry so I picked her up rocking her to sleep. "Mama told me two days ago that Lily was my biological sister" I said concentrated on the baby.

Usually I have heightened senses but they seemed to have turned off for the moment because I didn't notice Mama watching me. She was thinking 'she would make such a good Mama.' Setting Carol back in her crib I turned to walk out of the room. Only stopping to see Mama smiling at me, so I gave her a soft smile in return before I left.

Later that night I went to Mamas room. "Yes, dear?" She asked when I entered. "Well I just wanted to know something" "well what is it?" She asked me. So I sat in the chair in front of her desk. "Where did you learn that lullaby that you only hum to the baby's?" I asked her, she looked really surprised when I asked her but decided to answer.

"I learned it from and old friend who is no longer with us" she said "oh, I see. I have another question" "go ahead and ask" she told me. "Umm well, do you really think sister Krone is mentally stable? Also I read about these things called 'washing and dryer machines' so I think we should get them so we don't have to do so much work." I said "well, the answer to the first question is 'very unlikely' and we don't have the funding to get washing and dryer machines." She answered "ok that's all I needed" I said standing up to leave. "Wait y/n how do you know about that lullaby, you should have forgotten it by now." "Sometimes you unconsciously hum it when I'm with you taking care of the baby's" I answered before walking away and going to bed.
