Five minutes later, the last thing KITT expected was for the northern portion of the garage to lower into an entirely new basement below the building's property, with him, KARR, and Crystal along with it. What he apparently hadn't picked up on his prior scan was this entire segment of the garage was constructed to be a sort of elevator lift, excluding the ceiling. So, one could imagine KITT's shock to have the floor suddenly shift and drop beneath them earlier, even with Crystal's prior warning, and thus wind up here in some kind of bunker. Once the lift reached the lower level, another motorized panel of concrete shifted into place overhead, closing them in and shutting them away from the outside world. Where even more questions were raised than answered.

The fact that he hadn't detected this room on his scanner or in the blueprints of the house certainly threw him for a loop, and spurred him to do another sweep of the entirely new section of the building. It ran east to west and spanned an extra forty feet beneath the front yard. In this layout, rather than the majority of the room being to his and KARR's left, it was laid out in front of them. There were numerous types of lab tech for machinery and computers, a storage for select chemicals, rotatable dividers fixed to the ceiling that could separate the room into three chambers, and many, many other components, tools, equipment, and accessories that outnumbered what he could process all at once. KITT even detected a small number of weapons in the form of common firearms and knives set in a hidden compartment of the nearest wall, and a concrete tunnel off to the left that seemed to lead up and out somewhere. According to the measurements made by his scanner, it was just large enough for a small car to pass through.

It was like an entirely other world compared to the simple garage upstairs. Almost cluttered in its wide variety of features, yet somehow clean and orderly.

The AI was caught of guard considering what he knew of Crystal and what she told him so far. But at the same time he had to keep in mind that they've only known each other for less than twenty-four hours. This was more than enough proof that his knowledge of her and this future only sat at a surface level, and he showed no hesitation when pressing Crystal with more questions. As they discussed, she arranged the space to her liking and set up the wrap samples on a panelled wall at the back of the room. And what KITT learned was rather enlightening.

As it turned out, this house and property did not initially belong to her. She inherited it from her grandfather, who inherited it from his father before him. It was the great grandfather who became an incredibly wealthy man through his work- having bought the house and property, and later on the son spent his inheritance and personal earnings outfitting the house and garage with this bunker, hidden passageways, and high-security measures. That was the reason the AI's scanners hadn't detected it. The entirety of the bunker and passages underground were shielded in a signal-cancelling material and nothing could penetrate it. Not even advanced government tech.

Crystal herself was a college student, currently focusing on microprocessing technology and automotive mechanics. She had scholarships and licenses to cover the legal use and ownership of nearly everything in this basement, excluding what was on lease from her classes. The rest she either paid for herself or it was handed down to her just as the house was.

Not to say she hadn't worked very hard for everything she had and where she stood in terms of education. She even stated so, how much effort she put into her daily life to have everything she did now even with her talents and luck of what family she was born into. Crystal had to earn everything she had, and she clearly did it well.

That was as much as KITT learned up to the point of Crystal beginning to conduct durability experiments on the sample wrap that was pinned securely to the farthest wall of the room. Between her and the AI's was one of the space dividers, lowered to the floor as a safety measure while she worked with a number of hazardous items. The divider was thick, nearly sound proof, and fully transparent with an off-center hinged door, which had no locking mechanism in case of an emergency. According to Crystal, she and a pair of her friends built and installed them personally as a means of preventing unnecessary damages to the underground lab.
