MR and MRS's Davis look up from their current spot on the uncomfortable sofa in the police department"Do you think it's really her?" Carmen says to her frantic husband.
He looks up at his wife hopeful"If it really is her I hope she remembers us." he says giving her hand a reassuring squeeze. As they hear approaching footsteps, they look up to see a man in a police uniform that they recognize as the lead detective on their daughter's case. Her husband lets go of her to stand up and shake the detective's hand." you found her?" he eagerly says.
"We have, follow me," he says leading the couple down the hallway the first thing the couple notices is the smell? a mixture between blood and sweat and urine."You're keeping her down here?" Carmen says slowly walking down the steps into the basement. "This is just where the interrogation rooms are."He says calmly.
"Interrogation rooms? Why is our daughter being interrogated shes the victim?" Mr. Davis says visibly getting upset. Stopping to rest a hand on Mr.Davis's shoulder"We just have to ask her a few questions is all. we didn't want all the people from the news and what-not to upset her shes in well a frantic state at the moment."
"Well of course she is, she's been gone for seven years!" she says stopping at the bottom of the stairs. "Yes." he says turning around "But she doesn't know that. "I hate to be the one to inform you but she doesn't remember anything."
"At all?" he asked confused and worried while his wife sits on the steps with a hand over her mouth." The furthest back she remembers is two years ago," he says while trying to comfort the couple."So she doesn't remember who she is or what happened?" Mr.Davis says looking the detective in the eyes"No I'm afraid not, but come on she's just down here."The detective leads them into a room with a one-way mirror looking directly at what they have been looking for seven years their daughter.
Carmen puts a hand over her mouth and starts crying while her husband comforts her also clearly upset. In front of them sat a girl they could barely recognize she sat there with long hair, sickly pale skin, and cuts and bruises scattered across her face that wasn't their daughter it couldn't be they thought. That wasn't the daughter they remembered.
She looked broken like a shattered mirror" I'm going to be sick Carmen said walking drunkenly towards the door. The detective motions for one of the female detectives in the room to help her."Would you like to go in there and talk to her Mr.Davis?" looking at the man questioning "you can call me Mathew, and yes I would like to meet her." They step out of the room into the hallway again and walk down to the next door."Are you ready" the detective says putting a hand on his shoulder to steady him?"As ready as ill ever be" he says putting on a fake smile. The detective gives him a genuine smile and opens the door hastily.
"Hello, Cassandra how are you?" the detective says putting on a smile as the two of them sit in front of the girl. "I already told you I don't know who Cassandra is she says bitterly with a mixture of fear as well. "That's your name. Cassandra is your name, and this"looking and gesturing towards the man sitting next to him"well this is your father." The man gives her a sad smile but it's soon removed by the girl muttering"That's not my father I've never met him in my life!" He grabs ahold of the girl's hand"You were taken Cassandra at a young age when you were in your back yard, this" he says gesturing towards the man again" this is your father, and your mother is in the hallway" He says to the girl whos now crying silently. Her father takes her hand from the detective and whispers your save now cass I'm not going to let anything hurt you!"
After the questioning is over Cassandra was free to come home where she wandered around the house desperately trying to remember something. Her mother walks into the living room where she is currently residing carrying a pillow and a blanket. "You can sleep in here tonight and then tomorrow we'll make your room upstairs a little bit more your age," she says looking down at the girl and the "rags" she was wearing. The ragged old oversized red shirt and the baggy grey sweatpants came from the lost and found bin at the police station and they were horrid. We'll also go shopping for some clothes tomorrow." but she gets cut off by noises coming from outside where she can see people gathering on the lawn taking photos through the window. She hurriedly walks over to the window taking the curtains closed while her daughter gets comfortable on the sofa. She walks back over to her daughter kissing her on the forehead before turning off the lights, but when she does a terrible high-pitched scream comes from the sofa. The lights are back on as fast as they went off and the girls are sitting straight up on the sofa, as her father runs down the stairs to where the two girls were. "what happened?" he breathed out clearly out of breath. "I'm sorry." the girl spoke but her mom stepped in "It's okay we can leave the lights on tonight." She says giving her daughter a reassuring smile. She gives her daughter another kiss on the forehead before walking up the stairs with her husband.
"It's ok Cassandra," she says trying out the name on her tongue" Cassandra, andra, cass. Yeah, cass I like that." Snuggling into the blanket you heard what he said you safe, you're safe," she repeated until she fell asleep but as her mind was drifting off she knew one thing she might be safe in the real world but she would never be safe from her thoughts, her dreams, her mind, They held darkness, a darkness that she couldn't be saved from.
