We woke up when the carriage stopped moving. We had arrived in a cemetery.
- Come on... everybody off... Grayce said.
We were not reassured and nothing in the scenery helped us. It was dark and a fog hid the beds of the graves. The names on the stones were almost illegible and a dead silence reigned over the place.
- Where are we? I asked this question softly.
- In the twins' cemetery. It belonged to the "Beauchamps" family. But all their members died, mysteriously. In the end, only the two brothers were left. They were very intelligent, but while they were trying to solve the mystery of their family, they also died. Since then they have...how to say...gone slightly crazy...
- And why are we here?...asked Max.
-Because they're the ones who are going to help us... Grayce admitted.
A huge tomb towering over all the others easily dominated us. It bore a two-meter metal cross. It was in the center of the cemetery.
One moved slowly towards it, while looking unceasingly around us and while hoping not to cross the way of some creature or some monster!
- How ironic is that! Max exclaimed.
- What?" I asked. I asked.
- Ghosts who are afraid of the dead! Max joked.
A square stone door, roughly outlined on the grave, below the cross. As I passed my hand over it, a chill wind blew from the frame. Grayce opened it and invited us in.
I crouched down and began to walk carefully. It was dark and I didn't dare think about how many bugs were falling on me right now. My breath caught as I suddenly fell into the void.
I screamed. And to follow, I heard Grayce and Max screaming, too.
Everything stopped when we fell on a hard and cold ground. We still couldn't see, but in a way we were relieved to be on solid ground!
Grayce conjured a blue flame in his hand that revealed the unknown.
We were in a cave. It was dusty and must be the nest of billions of spiders!
- There was no one there...Grayce was hopeless. According to legend, this is where they live...
- According to legend?! Grayce you turned to a legend for help?!
- Well, besides them, there's no one to help you! And their last appearance is recent! Grayce pleaded.
- Oh yes, and by how long? I asked ironically.
- Uh... girls... said Max.
- From 267...or 265...
- From 300 years?! You've got to be kidding! I shouted.
- Girls... There's a trick to it...
- The Ghotas live to be old! Grayce shouted back.
- They're dead Grayce! I shouted.
- The girls! Max shouted.
- What?! The words were shouted at Max, at the same time. But his face remained petrified.
We turned around and saw that the room was beginning to light up. Torches were lit, burning like never before. A huge fire in the center of the room was the last to light up.
There was silence for a few seconds.
- What's going on? I whispered.
- I told you they were real. Grayce whispered to me. Hello ! We've come...uh...we're Ghota and we're from...
- Ghota? So are we! replied a voice.
A blue shadow passed quickly in all the corners of the room to end up near a table.
- Wait a second! How do we know they're not liars? said the other voice.
Grayce explained.
- We're not lying! We are Ghota and my friend needs help. Something is torturing her mind and we would like to...
- The mind? Ah, the fools! They have a mind! shouted a voice.
- Yes, I heard! Answered the other voice.
A second shadow stood by the table, next to the first.
- Can you help us? Max asked impatiently.
- Oh, there's a male among them!
- Nice curl! Smart to hide his ears!
- We want to see you... I don't know why I told them that. But I didn't really feel safe...
The two shadows moved to the fire in the center. They materialized instantly before our eyes. At first it was only in the form of a skeleton, then the flesh came, then the skin and everything that made them human. Only their eyes remained empty. Instead, they had a pale blue flame that shone through the darkness.
Their hair was black and they were tall. A smile filled with madness invaded their faces. They wore a suit where over a dirty and torn blouse served as a jacket.- Hello. We are the Twins! Nice to meet you. We knew you were coming. Says a voice.
- She doesn't know. said the other twin.
- Of course she doesn't know. Otherwise she wouldn't be here. Admitted her brother with great evidence.
- But if she was there, she couldn't have gone there. Her brother replied.
- Grayce... They're... crazy..., I whispered.
- Crazy? said one of the twins. No, we're sane.
- We know a lot! confessed the other twin.
- You have to forget your mind to see the impossible. Do you see the impossible?
- Oh yes...all the time...Max answered with a smile.
- He sees nothing.
- No, he is nothing.
- He only sees the girl! Haha!
At this sentence the twins laughed.
Most of the time they were doing their own dialogue and I didn't know if they were talking to us or to themselves... It was getting complicated, trying to understand them.
- We should start. Emitted a twin.
- Come on, let's talk. added the other twin.
- We need to know your present history before we start digging.
- We know you from before, but not you. You know each other only from now.
- Come closer to the guest table. She welcomes any good traveler who smiles at her.
- Or who feeds her! Once again they laughed together.
- I have a feeling it's going to be a long one..., Max huffed.
