The air was still, almost like the day had been frozen and time was no longer working. No branches creaked, not a single breeze passed by, and the bushes remained unrustled. A new layer of fluffy snow that had fallen the night before now coated the terrain, making everything dappled with white.
Mintpool sat at the center of the clearing, unmoving. Her eyes were narrowed, her gaze scanning the trees around her, searching for something. She didn't dare to move and make a sound; everything could then be ruined. Suddenly, a small crunch of snow came from her right, followed by a flash of golden fur; a cat darting from one bush to another. Got you!
Leaping up from her spot, the gray tabby jumped into the bush. She expected her paws to collide with a pelt, but all they fell into was cold snow. Confused, she leaped backwards, pelt fluffed. Where did she go...? Mintpool's eyes narrowed once more, before realization dawned upon her. Behind me!
She turned around too late; golden fur flashed in her gaze as Holly barreled into her. The gray tabby snarled, rolling around and kicking Holly off. The two flew at opposite corners of the clearing, teeth bared, waiting for the other one to attack.
Mintpool decided to leap forward first.
The gray tabby bounded towards Holly. As the golden tabby raised a paw, ready to meet her attack, Mintpool dodged around her instead of charging forward. Before Holly had time to react, the gray tabby's paws flew out, attacking Holly's front ones. The golden tabby reared onto her hind legs, stumbling. And, with a good blow to the stomach, she tumbled over into the snow.
Mintpool's pelt fluffed proudly. But, it wasn't over yet. Holly was beginning to get back to her paws. The gray tabby charged forward, striking a blow quickly that would knock the golden tabby back down before retreating. One... two... three! I won!
Pride bloomed inside her as she flicked her tail, waiting as her friend climbed back to her paws. Holly's eyes were glowing happily, too. "That was great, Mintpool!" she meowed. "I can't believe how much you improved this moon!"
At this, another prickle of pride flooded the gray tabby. She had improved greatly, especially in fighting. But, it certainly wasn't easy. The amount of time she and Holly spent in the Training Clearing was crazy!
"If you could do that with me, you can definitely do that with Snarl," Holly continued. "He may be big and intimidating, but he's a lot clumsier!"
The gray tabby swished her tail happily. "Thanks for helping me train, Holly!"
Holly nodded cheerfully in reply. "No problem! You're my friend, of course I'd help you!" She paused, twitching her tail-tip. "When are you going to plan to challenge Snarl?"
Mintpool tilted her head, thinking. Should I challenge him now? Every cat's inside the camp, and the weather's clear. Besides, I need to rise up the ranks quickly. She took a deep breath, deciding. "I'll challenge him now."
The golden tabby flicked her tail. "Alright. Let's head back to camp, then. I believe that you'll be able to win!"
"Thanks," Mintpool purred, following Holly out of the clearing. I will win. And I will get my revenge on AirClan.

"Every cat gather around to witness a rank challenge!" Cobrastrike's voice bounced off of the trees. He didn't seem very shocked when Mintpool had told him she wanted to challenge Snarl; all he'd done was nudge her gently and wish her luck.
When all the rogues had arrived, he announced, "I, Cobrastrike, the leader, announce and approve this challenge. Mintpool wishes to challenge Snarl for the rank of Paw Representative. Snarl must fight to keep his rank. If he looses, Mintpool will be the new Paw Representative. To win, the challenger must keep the defender down for three seconds." He flicked his tail. "You may begin."
